LG LE fault codewhat it means and how to fix it

Get it checkedDishwasherAll LG dishwashers. NE is a separate code for the Vario motorLast reviewed

Motor trouble on the Direct Drive motor — and the code where LG’s 10-year warranty claim needs checking carefully before you pay for anything.

Take care

Some of this is safe to check yourself, but the repair itself is not. If the fault comes back after one reset, stop resetting it and get a qualified appliance engineer to look at the LG properly.

What LE means

LE means motor trouble, and LG say only to call for service if the same problem occurs again. Note that LG list a second, separate motor code on dishwashers: NE, given as Vario motor trouble. That distinction does not exist on their washing machines and it is one more reason not to carry washer knowledge across. The reason this page is longer than the fault deserves is the warranty, because LG UK contradict themselves on it and the difference is years. LG UK’s dishwasher product pages advertise, in their words, a 10-year limited warranty on the Direct Drive Motor, and describe the Inverter Direct Drive as a motor backed by a 10-year warranty. No qualification about parts or labour appears alongside either claim. LG UK’s own warranty information page tells a different story: under Dishwashers it gives 24 months labour and 24 months parts, with no motor extension listed at all. The only 10-year Direct Drive note on that page sits under Washers and Dryers and is explicitly scoped to the washer, with the added qualification that it is a parts-only extension and the consumer will be charged for labour once the product warranty has expired. Both of those are LG UK pages. We cannot reconcile them and no LG page we could find attempts to. If you are relying on a 10-year motor warranty to justify a repair on a machine over two years old, get LG to confirm it in writing before the engineer is booked, not after.

What causes it

Causes of the LG LE fault code, most common first
CauseWhat is actually happeningHow likely
Motor or drive faultThe literal reading of the code, and what LG route to service. On Direct Drive machines the motor is a substantial part.Common
Pump obstructed to the point of stallingDebris jamming the impeller can present as a motor fault because the motor is being asked to turn something that will not move.Occasional
Control board or wiring faultA motor reported as faulty when the fault is actually in what drives it. Only diagnosable with the machine open.Occasional

What it costs to fix

Typical repair cost

£150–£350

Typically £150 to £320 fitted if you are paying, which is why the warranty question is worth resolving before booking rather than after.

Typical UK prices including parts and labour, updated August 2026. Your quote may differ.

What other owners found

Nobody has shared what worked for them on this code yet. If you have had it, you would be the first — and it genuinely helps the next person.

Common questions about LG LE

LG advertise a 10-year motor warranty. Does that cover this?

Get it confirmed in writing before you commit to anything. LG UK dishwasher product pages advertise a 10-year limited warranty on the Direct Drive Motor. LG UK’s warranty information page gives dishwashers 24 months parts and 24 months labour with no motor extension, and scopes its only 10-year Direct Drive note to washers, parts-only, with labour chargeable. Those are both LG UK pages and they do not agree.

Even if the motor is covered, is the repair free?

Not necessarily. The 10-year Direct Drive extension LG describe for washers is explicitly parts-only, with the customer charged for labour once the standard warranty has ended. If a similar structure applies to dishwashers, a covered motor still leaves you paying for the visit and the fitting.

What is the difference between LE and NE?

LG list them separately in the dishwasher manual: LE is motor trouble, NE is Vario motor trouble. They are different motors doing different jobs, so the code narrows down what needs looking at.

Is it worth repairing?

Depends entirely on the warranty answer. A motor is one of the more expensive parts in the machine, and on an out-of-warranty dishwasher of a few years old the repair can approach the price of replacing it. Settle the warranty question first.
