Baxi boiler fault codes
Baxi is the BDR Thermea badge with the widest spread of boilers still in service, from Duo-tec combis fitted under the 2010 scrappage scheme to the Combi 2 range sold today, and the fault codes have changed shape three times along the way. The oldest of the current families shows a two-character code under a rotary selector switch — E1 then 33 — and reports low pressure as E119. The digital-display generation that followed it (Duo-tec 2, the Compact ranges, 600 and 800, Assure, Megaflo) uses the same three-digit numbers but adds a spanner or an R symbol beside them and reports low pressure as E118. The 200 and 400 Combi of 2016 introduced a two-part code, E04 alternating with 10, and the Combi 2 boilers of 2023 print it with dots, E.04.10. The same platform ships as Potterton (Assure, Gold, Promax, Titanium) and Main (Eco Compact, Eco Elite), and Baxi say so on their own error-code page; each of those brands has its own pages here written from its own manuals, because the reset and the user-guide wording are not always identical. Codes were taken from the installation and service manual for each range, cross-checked against the user guide and Baxi's professional error-code table.
Where the code shows on a Baxi
Find out which display you have before you look a code up. On the Duo-tec Combi HE, Platinum Combi and Platinum+ the facia has room for two characters, so a three-digit code is split: Baxi's own manuals say "code E133 will be displayed by 'E1' alternating with '33'. E50 is shown as 'E' then '50'". On the Duo-tec 2 Compact, 600, 800, Assure and Megaflo the display shows the whole number with one of two symbols beside it — a spanner, which the user guide says "cannot be reset by the user", or an R, meaning the fault "can be reset by pressing the Reset button" — and the pressure gauge is a separate dial. On the 200 and 400 Combi of 2016–2023 a fault is a flashing triangle and two alternating pairs of digits: H02 then 06 is a temporary fault that clears itself, E02 then 07 the same fault made permanent. On the Combi 2 and System 2 from 2023 the code is printed with dots, E.04.10, and the letter tells you the class: A means the boiler keeps running, H that it has paused and will clear itself, E that it has stopped and wants a reset. Heat-only boilers (200, 400, 600, 800 Heat, Assure Heat) have no code display at all; they count flashes on the chimney-sweep button, green for a temporary block and red for a lockout.
How to reset a Baxi
Use the line for your display, because the hold time is different on each. Selector-switch boilers (Duo-tec Combi HE, Platinum, Platinum+): "turn the selector switch fully anticlockwise against the spring pressure to the reset position and hold for 5 seconds", and the manuals offer it only "when E110, E130 & E133 are displayed"; for E20, E28, E50, E125 and E160 they say note the code and call your installer, no reset. Digital-display boilers (600, 800, Duo-tec 2 and Compact, Assure, Megaflo): "pressing the Reset button for 1 to 3 seconds when E09, E15, E110, E125, E128, E133, E134, E135, E384 are displayed it is possible to relight the boiler"; the 600 Combi user guide is stricter, "press the Reset button for approximately 1 second, holding the button for more than 2 seconds the boiler will not reset", so a short press is the safe reading of both; a code with a spanner beside it will not reset from the panel. EcoBlue Advance: press the reset button "and holding for two seconds". Baxi 200 and 400 Combi (2016): "the RESET button must be pressed for at least 3 seconds". Combi 2, System 2 and Assure 500: "Press the RESET button for one second." Heat-only ranges: "press and hold the reset button until the fault indication flashes rapidly and goes out", up to five times in one hour. Every one of those manuals adds the same sentence in some form: if the boiler does not relight, or the code comes back regularly, stop and call a Gas Safe registered engineer. That matters most for E133, where each reset is another set of ignition attempts.
