Neff E845 fault codewhat it means and how to fix it

Get it checkedOvenLast updated

The pump has drawn air repeatedly, which on a steam oven means the water tank. Four codes share this one answer, and none of them applies to a conventional oven.

Take care

Some of this is safe to check yourself, but the repair itself is not. If the fault comes back after one reset, stop resetting it and get a qualified appliance engineer to look at the Neff properly.

What E845 means

Neff publish E845, E870, E871 and E872 as one entry with one cause and one remedy between them: the pump has pumped air several times in succession, and the answer is to press the clock function button, fill the water tank and push it in all the way. As with the other steam codes filed under Ovens, this cannot occur on a conventional built-in oven, which has no tank and no pump.

What the code is really reporting is that the pump is finding air where it expects water, which happens when the tank is empty, when it has not been pushed fully home so the pump cannot draw from it, or when the water level has dropped below the pickup during a long cycle. The detail worth acting on is the last part of their instruction. Pushing the tank in all the way is called out specifically, which suggests a partially inserted tank is a common enough cause to be worth naming — and it is easy to produce, because a tank that is nearly home feels seated and looks right from the front.

What causes it

Causes of the Neff E845 fault code, most common first
CauseWhat is actually happeningHow likely
The water tank is emptyThe obvious one and the first thing Neff’s remedy addresses. A steam cycle uses more water than most owners expect on a long programme.Common
The tank is not pushed fully into placeNeff call this out specifically. A tank that stops just short of home looks correctly fitted but leaves the pump unable to draw from it.Common
The tank ran dry part way through a long programmeThe pump meeting air mid-cycle produces the same report as starting with an empty tank, and a long steam cook is where it usually happens.Occasional

What to try yourself

  1. Press the clock function button, which is how Neff have you acknowledge the message.

  2. Take the water tank out and fill it.

  3. Push it back in all the way. Neff single this out in their instruction, and a tank sitting a few millimetres short is the failure they are guarding against.

  4. Start the programme again. If the same code returns with a full and properly seated tank, that is beyond the published owner remedy and worth a call.

Get a qualified appliance engineer to look at your Neff E845

We do not pass enquiries to a repair firm, so there is no form here. When you book a qualified appliance engineer, tell them the make, the model and the exact code or message on the display, and ask whether they carry parts for this make — that is what turns one visit into a repair rather than a quote.
