Electrical technical reviewer

Vacant post: Scheme-registered electrician

This post is currently vacant. No chargepoint, solar, battery or electric shower page here has been reviewed by an electrician, and none of them claims to have been. Installing or altering this equipment is notifiable work under Part P of the Building Regulations in England and Wales and is normally carried out by an electrician registered with a competent person scheme — that is a real registration and it would be verified before anybody is named on this page. What the role would bring is judgement about which faults are the equipment and which are the supply feeding it, a distinction that matters more here than anywhere else on this site: an inverter shutting down on high grid voltage and a chargepoint tripping on an earth fault are both the installation reporting something true about the world outside it. Electric showers were added to this post rather than to the appliance one deliberately. The appliance itself is a domestic appliance, but everything that makes it dangerous is electrical installation — a 40 amp circuit, a pull-cord isolator and a room that Approved Document P defines as a special location — and the judgement the pages most need is about which side of the isolator a fault is on.

What reviewing would mean here

The reviewer checks the severity rating and every do-it-yourself step on the pages they sign off, and re-reviews them at least every 18 months. Where a page says a fault needs a registered engineer, that decision is theirs rather than the writer’s.

That is the policy, and this post is not currently filled, so no page on this site carries a reviewer byline or claims to have been checked by an engineer. Severity is set from what the manufacturer publishes. You can see which sources were used at the foot of every code page.
