Indesit F11 fault codewhat it means and how to fix it

Get it checkedWashing machineIndesit washing machines and washer dryersLast updated

A pump circuit fault, and the one code where Indesit’s own remedy is unusable — their page prints a broken template tag where the phone number should be.

Take care

Some of this is safe to check yourself, but the repair itself is not. If the fault comes back after one reset, stop resetting it and get a qualified appliance engineer to look at the Indesit properly.

What F11 means

Indesit publish F11 as a pump circuit fault, with the symptom given as water remaining in the machine and not pumping out. Their remedy is the one they give to ten of their fourteen codes: call the customer service centre to book an engineer. On this row, and only on this row, the number is missing.

What Indesit’s page actually prints is an unresolved content-management template tag in square brackets where the digits should be, so the single piece of advice attached to the code cannot be followed. Their working number on every other row of the same page was 0800 030 8901 when this page was last checked, which is also worth knowing because it is not the number on their tumble dryer error code page, and both are Indesit. Beyond the broken tag, the distinction between F11 and F05 is worth understanding because the symptom is identical — water left in the drum.

Indesit title F05 "waste pipe blockage or pump issue" and give you things to clear; they title F11 "pump circuit fault" and give you nothing to clear. The word circuit is the whole of what they publish about the mechanism, and it points at the electrical side of the pump — the pump itself, its wiring or the board driving it — rather than at coins in the pre-chamber, which is why it is not an owner repair even though it looks like the code that is.

What causes it

Causes of the Indesit F11 fault code, most common first
CauseWhat is actually happeningHow likely
Pump failed electricallyThe pump itself, as an electrical part rather than a blocked one. Indesit publish only the title "pump circuit fault"; which part of the circuit is diagnosed with a meter rather than by eye.Common
Wiring or connector to the pumpA spade terminal shaken off, or a harness chafed through in a part of the machine that vibrates hard. The cheapest of the real answers.Occasional
Pump jammed hard enough to stallAn object locking the impeller so completely that the drive circuit reports a fault rather than a blockage. The one overlap with F05 territory.Occasional
Damp or corrosion at the pump connectorThe pump sits in the wettest part of the machine. A corroded pin reads as a broken circuit and gives this code intermittently before it gives it permanently.Occasional
Control board output failedThe board is not switching the pump. Diagnosed last, once the pump and its wiring have been measured, and the point at which an older machine’s economics change.Rare

What to try yourself

  1. Get the water out first, through the pump cover behind the front panel, so you are not leaving a full drum standing while you arrange a repair. Switch off at the wall before you start.

  2. Listen at the point in the cycle where the pump should run. Complete silence fits a pump or circuit that is dead; a buzz or a hum that goes nowhere fits an impeller jammed hard enough to stall.

  3. Clear the pre-chamber anyway while the panel is off. It is free, it rules out the one cause this code shares with F05, and an engineer will do it first regardless.

  4. Do not go looking for the pump wiring yourself. The pump sits in the wettest part of a mains-powered metal-cased appliance and the connector you would be reaching for is live when the machine is plugged in.

Mains voltage and standing water share the base of this machine. Diagnosing a pump circuit needs a meter and the training to use it.
  5. Book an engineer on the number Indesit print on the other thirteen rows of the same page — 0800 030 8901 when this page was last checked — or the number in the site header. Do not go looking for the number on the F11 row itself, because what is printed there is a broken template tag rather than a phone number.

  6. Tell them it is a pump circuit code rather than a blocked pump, and mention whether you heard anything. That distinction changes what they bring and what they check first.

Get a qualified appliance engineer to look at your Indesit F11

We do not pass enquiries to a repair firm, so there is no form here. When you book a qualified appliance engineer, tell them the make, the model and the exact code or message on the display, and ask whether they carry parts for this make — that is what turns one visit into a repair rather than a quote.

What it costs to fix

Typical repair cost

£90–£260

Time on site

20 minutes

A drain pump fitted is £100 to £170. A wiring or connector repair is £90 to £150. A control board takes it to £200 to £260, which on an older machine is worth weighing against replacement.

Common questions about Indesit F11

Why does Indesit’s page not give me a phone number for this code?

Because the row is broken. Where the digits should be, their page prints an unresolved content-management template tag in square brackets, so the only advice attached to F11 — call and book an engineer — cannot actually be followed from the page. The working number on every other row of the same page was 0800 030 8901 when this page was last checked; it has changed before, so if that fails use the number in the site header.

How is F11 different from F05? Both leave water in the drum.

The symptom is the same and the fault is not. Indesit title F05 "waste pipe blockage or pump issue" and tell you to check the filter, the hose and the plumbing, which is usually something blocking the water and often free to fix. They title F11 "pump circuit fault" and offer only an engineer; the word circuit points at the electrical side — the pump, its wiring or the board — and Indesit publish nothing more specific than that. Same puddle, different repair.

Is there anything at all I can do myself?

Two things worth doing. Drain the machine through the pump cover so you are not leaving a drum full of water standing, and clear the pre-chamber while you are in there, because that rules out a jammed impeller for nothing. Beyond that this is a circuit fault at mains voltage in the wettest part of the machine.

Is the Indesit number the same as the one on their dryer pages?

No, which catches people out. When last checked, Indesit’s washing machine error code page gave 0800 030 8901 on every row and their tumble dryer error code page gave 0344 822 4224 — the number Hotpoint use. Same manufacturer, same website, two numbers depending on which appliance you clicked, and both have changed over time.
