What F13 means
F13 is a main board fault — the control electronics rather than any of the components they drive. Hotpoint send it straight to an engineer, which is right, because there is nothing an owner can do with a board and nothing safe about opening a dishwasher cabinet to look at one. The practical advice on this code is financial rather than technical. Control boards are among the most expensive parts in a dishwasher, and on a mid-range machine a board plus labour can come to a substantial share of what a new one would cost. So the question to ask the engineer is not "can you fix it" but "what will it cost, and is it worth it" — and to ask before the part is ordered rather than after. It is also worth knowing that a board fault is genuinely difficult to distinguish from a fault in what the board controls. Hotpoint list F12 separately as a communication error between the main board and the display, and several other codes in their list can be caused by the board rather than the component named. That cuts both ways: a code pointing at a component is not proof the component has failed, and F13 is not proof that everything else is fine. It is one more reason to want a diagnosis before parts are ordered.

Is it worth repairing?
Get the number before you commit. A control board is one of the dearest parts in the machine, and with labour the repair can approach a significant share of a replacement. Ask for the total cost before the part is ordered — an engineer who has already fitted it is in a much weaker position to advise you honestly.
Could it be something cheaper than the board?
Possibly. A corroded connector or a damaged wiring loom can report as a board fault, and if there has been a leak elsewhere in the machine, moisture may be the real story. A proper diagnosis is worth insisting on before parts are ordered.
Can I reset it?
Switching off at the wall for a few minutes will clear a code that was a one-off glitch, and occasionally that is all it was. If it comes straight back, the fault is real and no amount of power cycling will change that.
