Hotpoint dishwashers fault codes

Hotpoint dishwashers report faults as an F followed by two digits, and Hotpoint publish all thirteen. Indesit machines use the identical list. Whirlpool is where it gets complicated: they own all three brands and their service site carries this same table, but a good many Whirlpool-badged machines ship with a different, single-digit code set that disagrees with it — so check the shape of your code before you trust these pages. And if your machine was built between 2005 and 2015, there is an open Hotpoint and Indesit safety notice about overheating, worth two minutes with the model checker before you troubleshoot anything.

Where the code shows on a Hotpoint

Start by working out which of two code systems your machine uses, because the same letter and number can mean different things on each. These pages cover the two-digit system: codes written as F01 and F03 with a leading zero, running as far as F15, and shown on a display-less machine by four numbered indicator lights. The other system uses single digits — F1, F6 — and signals them on a display-less machine by flashing the START lamp a countable number of times. It appears on Whirlpool-badged machines and runs only to F9. If you are counting flashes of one lamp, you are on the other system and these pages are not for you. On the two-digit system you do not count flashes, which is where almost every guide online goes wrong. The four lights hold a steady pattern spelling out the number in binary: LED 6 is worth 1, LED 7 is worth 2, LED 8 is worth 4, LED 9 is worth 8, and you add up the lit ones. Lights worth 1, 2 and 4 give F07; all four give F15. Any other light blinking rapidly is just an attention signal and means nothing. Two caveats. None of the three brands publish which physical lights are numbered 6 to 9. And all three publish the same pattern for F08 as they do for F09, which cannot be right for both, so those two cannot be told apart from the lights alone.

How to reset a Hotpoint

Hotpoint offer no reset sequence for these codes. Eleven of the thirteen go straight to booking an engineer, and only the drain and water supply faults come with a check you are invited to make yourself. Switching the machine off at the wall for a few minutes will clear a code that was a one-off, but it will not fix anything that is still there.
