Lamona Not draining waterwhat to check
E:01 without signs of water. Howdens name the drain hose, but the filters and the sink trap are worth checking too.
Take care
Which of these matches your appliance?
The right answer depends on what you can see. Pick the one that matches.
Choose the option on the left that matches what your appliance is doing, and the answer for that case appears here.
Water on the floor, under the door or in the base
Howdens list this under the same code as a drain fault, but it is their internal leak condition, and the instruction is different: turn off at the water supply and mains electric and call for a Service Engineer. Nothing on this page applies.
Close the tap, switch the machine off at the wall and go to the Internal leak page. Do not run it again to see.
Everything outside the tub is dry
This is the not-draining condition. Howdens’ check is the drain hose; the filters and the sink trap are the other two places to look, and all three are free.
Work through the steps below, then run a short programme to confirm it empties.
What this means
The display shows E:01, and Howdens keep this one to a single check: not draining water, check the drain hose for kinks and blockages. That is sound as far as it goes and the hose is a reasonable first look, particularly on an integrated machine that has been pulled out and pushed back at some point. But it is a shorter list than most manufacturers give for the same fault, and there are two more places worth looking before you conclude the machine has failed.
The first is the filter system in the base of the tub — three filters on a Lamona, which Howdens call the main, coarse and micro filters. It catches food debris so that it does not reach the pump, it fills up gradually, and it is designed to be lifted out and washed by hand; the manual asks for it to be cleaned every two weeks and, on the same page as the fault codes, asks "Are the filters clogged?" before you ring.
On a machine that has been draining fine for a couple of years and has stopped, it is the most likely single cause. The second is the trap under your kitchen sink. Most dishwashers discharge into the same waste as the sink, so a trap thick with cooking fat stops the dishwasher while the appliance itself is in perfect order. It is worth a moment to check whether your sink is draining slowly too, because if it is, the dishwasher is not the problem and no amount of work on the machine will help. One thing before any of that. E:01 is also the code for an internal leak; Howdens print both meanings against the same display and separate them with the words "signs of water". If there is water anywhere outside the tub, this is not your page.
What causes it
| Cause | What is actually happening | How likely |
|---|---|---|
| Drain hose kinked or blocked | Howdens’ only named check. Usually crushed behind the machine or silted where it meets the waste. | Common |
| Filters blocked | The three-part filter system in the base of the tub. Not in Howdens’ E:01 line, but their pre-call checklist on the same page asks whether the filters are clogged, and it is the most likely cause on a machine that has been working and stopped. | Common |
| Sink trap or shared waste blocked | A greasy trap backs the dishwasher up while nothing in the machine has failed. Free to check and free to fix. | Common |
| Drain pump obstructed or failed | Debris jamming the impeller, or a pump that has genuinely stopped. What is left once the free causes are eliminated. | Occasional |
What to try yourself
Look for water outside the tub first — floor, plinth, under the door. If there is any, stop: E:01 with signs of water is Howdens’ internal leak condition. Turn off the water and the electricity and use the Internal leak page.
Switch the machine off and, as the manual requires before maintenance, disconnect the mains plug or switch off its supply before putting a hand inside the cabinet.
Run the kitchen tap and watch the sink. If it is draining slowly too, clear the sink trap first — the dishwasher is not the problem.
Bail out the standing water in the machine with a jug, finishing with a sponge, until you can see the base of the tub.
Let it cool if the programme stopped part way through. Water in a dishwasher mid-cycle is hot enough to scald.Clean the filters the way the manual pictures it: twist the micro filter to release it and lift the whole assembly out with the main filter plate, separate the coarse filter, rinse every part under the tap, then reassemble, drop it back in and twist to lock. Howdens want this done every two weeks and warn that the machine must not be used without the filters.
Pull the machine forward and follow Howdens’ check — inspect the drain hose along its full length for kinks and blockages.
Refit everything, restore power and run a short programme to confirm it empties.
Get a qualified appliance engineer to look at your Lamona dishwasher
We do not pass enquiries to a repair firm, so there is no form here. When you book a qualified appliance engineer, tell them the make, the model and the exact code or message on the display, and ask whether they carry parts for this make — that is what turns one visit into a repair rather than a quote.

Common questions
Howdens only mention the hose. Is that all it can be?
No, and their E:01 line is shorter than most. The filter system in the base of the tub and the trap under your sink are both common causes of exactly this, and both are free to check. Howdens themselves ask "Are the filters clogged?" in the checklist above the fault codes. Do those alongside the hose rather than instead of it.
How do I know if it is the sink rather than the machine?
Run the kitchen tap and watch how fast the sink empties. Most dishwashers share that waste, so a slow sink means a blocked trap is backing the dishwasher up. Clear the trap and retest before booking anyone.
Is there a reset for this?
Not a published one. Howdens attach their only reset — pressing start twice — to E:02, the water supply code, and nothing to E:01. Clear the cause, cancel with the Start / Pause / Cancel button (the panel labels it "Cancel 3 sec.") and run a cycle.
I found E:01 on a list as a door-lock fault.
That is the Lamona washing machine table, which Howdens host alongside the dishwasher manuals. On the dishwasher, E:01 is not draining water or, with signs of water, an internal leak.
