Redring t fault codewhat it means and how to fix it

Usually simple to fixElectric showerThe t display is the Selectronic Premier (RSELP85, RSELP95, RSELP108 in S, P and WPC variants) in temperature-lock mode. The Selectronic Advanced has the same thirty-minute switch-off, set by DIP switch 6, without the letter.Last updated

A lone t on a Selectronic Premier, with bleeps, is the thirty-minute auto switch-off warning in temperature-lock mode. Press Warmer or Cooler and it carries on.

Before you start

This one is usually safe to look at yourself. Do not remove any panel that is held on with screws or clips — everything below is done from the outside of the electric shower.

What t means

On the Selectronic Premier the display normally shows a temperature digit, L through 1 to 9 up to H. When the shower is in temperature-lock mode, which is how Redring ship it and how it must be set for a BEAB Care Wash installation, the shower also switches itself off after thirty minutes. Near the end of that half hour it bleeps several times and the display changes to a lowercase t.

Redring’s instruction is short: to stop the shower switching off automatically, press either the Warmer or the Cooler button. Do nothing and the shower stops on its own, running its usual cool-down first. Nothing has failed. The feature exists because the Selectronic is sold as a care shower, for users who may not be able to end a shower reliably themselves, and a fixed run time is part of that. The same letter appears in one other place on the Premier, in the over-temperature shutdown, but there it alternates with a flashing o and comes with eight rapid bleeps and no water, which is a different event with its own page. The t on its own, with water still running, is only the timer.

Two things follow. First, a household that finds the shower stopping at half an hour is not looking at a fault, and the answer is the button rather than a call. Second, the timer is tied to the temperature-lock switch inside the unit, so a shower that has been changed to the unlocked position by the installer will not do this at all, and one that starts doing it after a service has probably had the switch moved back. The Selectronic Advanced has the same thirty-minute switch-off but handles it differently: it is set by DIP switch 6 inside the unit, enabled by default, described by Redring as switching off after thirty minutes of inactivity, and its guide does not describe a t display or a warning bleep for it, so on an Advanced this page is about the timer rather than the letter.

What causes it

Causes of the Redring t fault code, most common first
CauseWhat is actually happeningHow likely
Thirty-minute auto switch-off approachingThe Premier’s published behaviour in temperature-lock mode: several bleeps, the display changes to t, and the shower stops unless a temperature button is pressed.Common
Temperature lock switch set to a locked positionThe timer only runs with the internal templock slider in positions 1 to 3. Redring ship the Premier locked in position 1, so most units do this out of the box.Common
Mistaken for the over-temperature shutdownThe shutdown also shows a t, but alternating with an o, with eight bleeps and the water stopped. If the water is still running it is the timer.Occasional

What to try yourself

  1. When the bleeps start and the t appears, press either the Warmer or the Cooler button once. The shower carries on and the display returns to the temperature digit.

  2. If you would rather it did not stop at all, the change is the temperature-lock slider inside the unit to the unlocked position 4, which removes the timer and the lock together. That is an installer’s job behind the cover, and Redring say it must not be done on a Care Wash installation.

  3. Check that the t is alone and the water is running. A t alternating with a flashing o, with eight bleeps and no water, is the over-temperature shutdown, which needs the purge on its own page rather than a button press.

Get a qualified electrician to look at your Redring t

We do not pass enquiries to a repair firm, so there is no form here. When you book a qualified electrician, tell them the make, the model and the exact code or message on the display, and ask whether they carry parts for this make — that is what turns one visit into a repair rather than a quote.

Nothing. It is a feature, and the only paid option is an installer visit to change the internal switch, which Redring advise against on care installations.

Common questions about Redring t

Why does my Redring shower switch off after thirty minutes?

Because it is in temperature-lock mode and the Selectronic Premier has a thirty-minute auto switch-off in that mode. The t and the bleeps are the warning. Press Warmer or Cooler to keep it running.

Can I turn the timer off from the front?

No. On the Premier, holding Warmer and Cooler together overrides the temperature lock for the current shower but it returns to locked mode next time, and removing the timer permanently means moving the slider switch inside. On the Advanced the timer is DIP switch 6 on the board. Both are installer work behind the cover.

Does the lock light tell me anything?

Yes. Redring’s temperature-lock light on the front is lit in the locked positions and off in the unlocked one, so if the light is on you can expect the half-hour timer.
