Whirlpool Whirlpool built-in microwaves fault codes
The appliances Whirlpool’s public error-code pages are filed under. Fitted into a housing, usually with a trim kit, and the models where a power cycle means the breaker rather than the plug. The service tech sheet these pages also draw on is for an over-the-range convection model, a hood-mounted North American format; the two documents share the F-and-E code space.
Codes on the Whirlpool built-in microwaves follow the same Whirlpool scheme as the rest of the range. Where a code behaves differently on this generation, the code page says so.

- F1E4The board running the microwave side, or the relay it switches power through, has failed a self-check. One of the codes both Whirlpool sources agree on.Get it checked
- F2E1A button is being read as held down. Whirlpool call it a stuck key failure, and it is the one public page in this family that is not about an oven.Usually simple to fix
- F4E1The cavity temperature sensor is reading outside what the control will accept. Whirlpool’s two sources describe it slightly differently but not incompatibly.Get it checked
- F1E5The inverter or the magnetron tube. This is the code behind the classic symptom of a microwave that runs perfectly and heats nothing.Get it checked
- F4E9The code where Whirlpool contradict themselves. Their service sheet calls it a popcorn microphone fault; their public page calls it the inverter.Get it checked
- F4E4The humidity sensor that drives automatic cooking has faulted. Whirlpool publish the same component twice, under F4E4 and under F3H.Usually simple to fix
- F8E5The exhaust air temperature sensing has faulted. Whirlpool’s two sources describe it differently, and one of them contains a typo.Get it checked
- F4E7The temperature probe is not reading. Whirlpool warn that the microwave probe and the oven probe look alike and are not interchangeable.Usually simple to fix
- FCE3A connectivity code, not a fault. Whirlpool list three of them in their service sheet and publish no page for any of the three.Usually simple to fix
