Neff Er2 fault codewhat it means and how to fix it
Wrong mains connection. This is the most serious code Neff publish for an oven, and their own instruction is to kill the circuit and get an electrician.

Get a qualified appliance engineer to look at your Neff Er2
We do not pass enquiries to a repair firm, so there is no form here. When you book a qualified appliance engineer, tell them the make, the model and the exact code or message on the display, and ask whether they carry parts for this make — that is what turns one visit into a repair rather than a quote.
What Er2 means
Neff give this two words of explanation — wrong mains connection — and then an instruction with no owner branch at all: switch off the fuse in the fuse box and have the appliance connected correctly by an electrician. It is worth understanding why that is the right level of alarm.
Neff’s manuals say that appliances without plugs may only be connected by a licensed professional, and many built-in ovens in British kitchens are exactly that: wired to a cooker circuit or a fused connection unit by whoever fitted the kitchen. Er2 is the appliance reporting that the supply it has been given is not the supply it expects. That points at the installation rather than at the oven, which means it will not be fixed by resetting anything, and it means the fault is in the connection to your kitchen’s wiring rather than inside the oven itself.
The two situations that produce it most often are a brand new installation that has never worked properly, and an oven that has just been swapped for a new one. If yours has appeared out of nowhere on an appliance that has run for years, that is worth mentioning to whoever attends, because it suggests something has changed at the supply end.
What causes it
| Cause | What is actually happening | How likely |
|---|---|---|
| The oven has been wired incorrectly at installation | The reading Neff’s own remedy implies, since it sends you to an electrician to have the appliance connected correctly rather than to a repair engineer. | Common |
| A fault has developed in the cooker circuit itself | A loose connection at the cooker outlet plate or the isolator can change what the appliance sees at its terminals without anything inside the oven failing. | Occasional |
| The appliance has been connected to an unsuitable supply | Ovens intended for a dedicated circuit sometimes end up on a spur or a socket during a kitchen refit, which is not the arrangement the appliance is designed around. | Occasional |

What it costs to fix
Typical repair cost
£80–£250
An electrician’s visit to inspect and correct a cooker circuit connection typically runs £80 to £250 depending on what is found. It is not an appliance repair and is unlikely to be covered by an oven warranty.
Typical UK prices including parts and labour, updated September 2026. Your quote may differ.

Common questions about Neff Er2
Can I use the oven until someone comes out?
Neff’s instruction does not leave room for that. They tell you to switch off the fuse in the fuse box, which is an instruction to isolate the appliance rather than to stop using it politely. Given the code concerns the mains connection rather than a component inside the oven, treat it as the manufacturer telling you the installation is not safe to energise.
Do I need an electrician or an appliance engineer?
Neff say an electrician, in those words. That is unusual — almost every other code in this category routes to an appliance engineer — and the distinction is meaningful, because the fault they are describing lives in the fixed wiring rather than in the appliance.
The oven is brand new. Is it faulty?
Possibly not. Er2 reports a problem with how the appliance has been connected, so on a newly installed oven the likeliest explanation is the installation rather than the appliance. That is worth establishing before anyone books a repair against the manufacturer’s warranty.
