Falcon range cooker fault codes
Falcon range cookers are built by AGA Rangemaster Limited, and their user guides are published on rangemaster.co.uk rather than anywhere under the Falcon name. That is not a filing convenience: the troubleshooting section in a Falcon book is the same shared document component that appears in a Rangemaster book, word for word. So a Falcon code is a Rangemaster code, and the Falcon-specific material is elsewhere.
Where the code shows on a Falcon
On the induction models the zone displays carry a pan detector symbol, H for residual heat, A for automatic heat-up, a child lock symbol, L1 and L2 for the low temperature settings and P for power boost, alongside the three published codes: E2, U400, and Er followed by a number. Every one of those is published in identical wording in the Rangemaster guides, because it is the same shared troubleshooting component. Dual fuel and all-gas Falcons have no display on the hob and publish no codes whatsoever, so everything diagnostic on the gas side is a behaviour rather than a character on a screen.
How to reset a Falcon
The Falcon books publish an action for each symptom rather than one reset. For the E2 over-temperature the published route is to check the installation of the cooker and make sure there is sufficient ventilation, noting that a utensil boiled dry can also produce it. For U400 there is no reset at all: the control switches off after about a second and the code stays permanently displayed until an installer or a qualified repair engineer has been. For Er followed by a number the published line is that the appliance has developed an internal technical fault that cannot be rectified by the user. On the gas side the published reset is a wait — turn the control knob to off and leave it a full minute before trying to relight. And before any thorough cleaning, Falcon instruct owners to isolate the electricity supply and allow the cooker to cool.
Most common Falcon faults
The Falcon codes people look up most.
- Which code table applies to a FalconUsually simple to fixFalcon and Rangemaster publish one troubleshooting section between them. The guides come from rangemaster.co.uk, share internal document numbers, and the code text matches word for word.
- Gas hotplate will not light or will not simmerGet it checkedTwo Falcon-specific answers: the low flame position is past high rather than between high and off, and the control knob has to be held in for about ten seconds.
- Hob controls lockedUsually simple to fixFalcon’s rotary child lock is engaged by holding the two left-hand hob controls anticlockwise. The A symbol flashing while it locks is published as normal.
