Leisure U fault codewhat it means and how to fix it

Usually simple to fixRange cookerLast updated

U is a keep-warm level sitting between 0 and 1 on the slider, not an error. P is boost. Anyone searching for it is looking at a setting.

Before you start

This one is usually safe to look at yourself. Do not remove any panel that is held on with screws or clips — everything below is done from the outside of the range cooker.

What is on the zone display?

The right answer depends on what you can see. Pick the one that matches.

Choose the option on the left that matches what your appliance is doing, and the answer for that case appears here.

What is on the zone display?

The zone is on the keep-warm level, which Leisure publish as a usable setting below 1 rather than as any kind of error.

Slide up for a cooking level or down to 0 to switch the zone off completely.

What is on the zone display?

The booster has run its course. Leisure publish that when boost time is over the zone power is reduced and 9 is displayed continuously.

Carry on at 9, or re-engage the booster if you need another burst of power.

What is on the zone display?

Two published explanations fit before any fault does: the keylock being enabled, and the hob having returned to standby after twenty seconds of inactivity.

If the zones show L, hold the on/off key with the hob in standby until they clear. Then touch the hob on and set a level within twenty seconds rather than leaving it waiting.

What U means

A letter U on a Leisure zone display is a heat setting that somebody has selected, deliberately or otherwise. Leisure publish it in one line: you can use the level U for warm keeping. It sits between 0 and 1 on the slider, which is exactly why it gets found by accident. Slide down through the numbers looking for off and you land on U rather than on nothing, and the zone carries on gently heating while the display shows a letter that looks like a warning. Its opposite number is P, which is the booster. Both are settings and neither is a fault, and between them they account for most of the letters people photograph on these hobs. Four more published behaviours belong on the same page, because they are all versions of the hob appearing not to do what it was told.

If no operation is performed within 20 seconds, the hob returns to standby by itself, so a level chosen and then left while you fetch something from the fridge is gone by the time you come back. A set temperature value becomes active after approximately 3 seconds, so nothing appears to happen for a moment after you touch a level. A zone has to be activated before its settings are made, which is the reason a perfectly good slider produces nothing at all when you have not selected the zone first. And when the booster time is up, the power of the cooking zone is reduced and 9 is displayed continuously, which reads as the hob quietly turning itself down mid-cook. It is, and it is meant to. Then there is the operation time limit, which is Leisure’s answer to a hob that switches itself off after a long session. Every level has a published maximum running time, and the limits are generous at the bottom and short at the top. The full table as printed: level 0 runs to 720 minutes, U to 480, level 1 to 516, level 2 to 402, level 3 to 318, level 4 to 258, level 5 to 210, levels 6 and 7 to 138 each, level 8 to 108, level 9 to 90, and the booster to 10.

Two of those rows do not descend as the rest do — level 1 is allowed longer than the keep-warm level below it, and 6 and 7 share a figure — and because the manual is a scanned image we went back and read the page again at high resolution before printing them. The digits are unambiguous; the sequence is Beko’s, not a misreading, so we reproduce it rather than tidy it. Finally, if the panel does nothing at all and every zone display shows an L, Leisure name the keylock, and they publish the sequence: the lock can only be set or cleared with the hob in standby, by pressing and holding the on/off key until the L symbols appear or disappear on each zone display. While it is on, pressing the on/off key just brings the L symbols back.

What causes it

Causes of the Leisure U fault code, most common first
CauseWhat is actually happeningHow likely
U selected instead of switching the zone offIt sits below 1 on the slider, so scrolling down past the numbers lands on the keep-warm level rather than on nothing.Common
The booster has finished on its ownWhen boost time is up the zone power is reduced and 9 is shown continuously, which looks like the hob losing strength.Common
The hob returned to standby before the setting tookTwenty seconds without an input sends it back, so a level chosen and then left unattended never becomes active.Common
The setting made before the zone was activatedA zone has to be selected first, and the value then needs roughly three seconds before it becomes active.Occasional
The keylock is enabledLeisure list this as the reason panel buttons and keys stop functioning. An L on every zone display is the sign, and holding the on/off key with the hob in standby clears it.Occasional
The operation time limit has been reachedEach level has a published maximum running time, from 720 minutes at level 0 down to 90 at level 9 and 10 on the booster.Occasional

What to try yourself

  1. Slide up from U into the 1 to 9 range if you want the zone to cook rather than hold something warm.

  2. Slide down past U to 0 if you want it off, and check the display actually reads 0 rather than a letter.

  3. Give a new setting about three seconds to take effect before deciding the hob has ignored you.

  4. Select the zone first, then set its level. Settings made without a zone activated do not go anywhere.

  5. If nothing on the panel responds and every zone shows L, clear the keylock: with the hob in standby, press and hold the on/off key until the L symbols disappear.

  6. If P has been replaced by a steady 9, the booster has simply expired after its published 10 minutes.

  7. If the hob has switched itself off after many hours on a low setting, look at the operation time limit before assuming a fault.

Get a qualified appliance engineer to look at your Leisure U

We do not pass enquiries to a repair firm, so there is no form here. When you book a qualified appliance engineer, tell them the make, the model and the exact code or message on the display, and ask whether they carry parts for this make — that is what turns one visit into a repair rather than a quote.

Common questions about Leisure U

What does U mean on a Leisure hob?

It is the keep-warm setting. Leisure publish that you can use the level U for warm keeping, and it sits between 0 and 1 on the slider, which is why people find it while trying to turn a zone off. Nothing has gone wrong and there is nothing to reset.

What does P mean?

The booster. It gives the zone extra power for a limited period and then hands back: when the boost time is over the power is reduced and the display shows 9 continuously. Leisure publish 10 minutes as the operation time limit for the booster level.

Why did my hob switch itself off after hours on a low setting?

Because each level has a published maximum running time. Level 0 goes to 720 minutes and U to 480; then 516, 402, 318, 258, 210, 138, 138 and 108 minutes for levels 1 to 8; level 9 to 90 and the booster to 10. Yes, level 1 is printed as longer than U and levels 6 and 7 share a figure. We re-read the scanned page at high resolution to be sure, and that is what Beko printed, so we give it to you as they did rather than smoothing it.

I press the panel and nothing happens at all.

Work through the three published explanations first. The keylock may be enabled, which shows as an L on every zone display, and Leisure’s sequence is to press and hold the on/off key with the hob in standby until the L symbols go. The hob returns to standby if nothing is done for twenty seconds. And a zone has to be activated before its settings can be made, so pressing a slider on an unselected zone does nothing.

We establish the facts from the sources below and then write the explanation ourselves. We do not copy manufacturer wording and we do not host their manuals.
