Two live Beko fire notices cover condenser dryers built in 2012, and they include a Blomberg model. Beko publish a way to read the build date out of the serial number.

Get a qualified appliance engineer to look at your Beko tumble dryer

We do not pass enquiries to a repair firm, so there is no form here. When you book a qualified appliance engineer, tell them the make, the model and the exact code or message on the display, and ask whether they carry parts for this make — that is what turns one visit into a repair rather than a quote.

What does the serial number on the door rim say?

The right answer depends on what you can see. Pick the one that matches.

Choose the option on the left that matches what your appliance is doing, and the answer for that case appears here.

What does the serial number on the door rim say?

That is a machine built between May and November 2012. The 8 kg and 9 kg notice covers that whole window (serial ending 05 to 11); the 6 kg and 7 kg notice covers May to October (05 to 10). Beko ask owners in either position to contact them.

Stop using it and disconnect it from the wall socket, which is what Beko’s more strongly worded notice instructs, then contact Beko to check your model against the affected list.

What does the serial number on the door rim say?

Your machine was not built in 2012 and is outside the window both notices cover, regardless of model.

No action needed on these notices. If the dryer is misbehaving, that is an ordinary fault rather than a safety issue.

What does the serial number on the door rim say?

Neither Beko notice covers heat pump machines — both are specific to condenser dryers from 2012. There is a separate national programme running on heat pump dryers, and Beko are not part of it.

Nothing here applies. The national heat pump programme names eight badges — Candy, Hoover, Baumatic, Caple, Haier, Iberna, Lamona and Montpellier — and Beko and Blomberg are not among them.

What does the serial number on the door rim say?

That model is named in the Blomberg-badged version of the 8 kg and 9 kg notice, which is the only model that version lists.

Treat it exactly as the Beko notice instructs: stop using it and contact them.

What this means

Beko have two tumble dryer safety notices live on their own website, both covering condenser machines built in a narrow window in 2012, and both telling owners to stop using the appliance. The 8 kg and 9 kg notice describes "a batch issue with a third party supplied component which in rare circumstances could fail and overheat, which could lead to a risk of fire", and asks owners of a potentially affected product to stop using it immediately as a precaution. The 6 kg and 7 kg notice is worded more directly: Beko say they have been made aware of "a small number of incidents" where "an electrical component has failed and overheated, leading to a potential risk of fire", and ask owners to stop using the machine immediately and disconnect it from the wall socket.

The genuinely useful part is how you check. Beko publish a decode for the serial number, which is the only decode of any Beko identifier we found published anywhere: the rating plate sticker is at the bottom of the inner rim of the door opening, the serial is ten digits, and "the first 2 digits of the serial number show the year of production and the last 2 digits show the month of production".

So a serial starting 12 and ending 05 is a machine built in May 2012. The two notices have slightly different windows: for the 8 kg and 9 kg models Beko ask owners to contact them if the serial begins with 12 and ends with 05, 06, 07, 08, 09, 10 or 11 (May to November 2012); for the 6 kg and 7 kg models the list runs 05 to 10 (May to October 2012). The 8 kg and 9 kg programme was set up "to locate 3,450" machines across the Beko and Blomberg badges, with a free in-home check "no longer than 30 minutes"; the 6 kg and 7 kg notice is dated October 2013.

What causes it

Causes of Beko Safety notice, most common first
CauseWhat is actually happeningHow likely
A third-party component that could fail and overheatBeko’s own description on the 8 kg and 9 kg notice. They characterise it as a batch issue affecting a defined production window rather than a design fault across the range.Common
An electrical component failing and overheatingThe wording on the 6 kg and 7 kg notice, where Beko additionally acknowledge a small number of actual incidents rather than a theoretical risk. This is the more strongly worded of the two.Common
A build date inside the affected windowBoth notices are scoped by production month rather than by model alone, which is why the serial number decode matters more than the model number. A machine of the right model built outside the window is not affected.Common

Can you fix it yourself?

What it costs to fix

Typical repair cost

£0

Nothing. Manufacturer safety programmes are free to the owner. If anyone asks you to pay for work relating to a safety notice, that is not the programme.

Common questions

I checked gov.uk and found nothing about a Beko dryer recall.

You would not, and it is worth understanding why before drawing a conclusion. The OPSS product safety database returns no Beko, Blomberg, Grundig or Arçelik entries at all, while two Beko dryer notices are live on Beko’s own site. That is partly explained by timing rather than by any regulatory gap — the OPSS database only began publishing in 2022 and these notices date from 2013. What we can say without qualification is that checking gov.uk today will not tell you about them, so check Beko’s own safety pages instead.

Is my Beko heat pump dryer part of the big recall I have read about?

No. There is a live national modification programme for built-in heat pump dryers — around 85,000 still to be modified, by the regulator’s December 2025 count — and it names Candy, Hoover, Baumatic, Caple, Haier, Iberna, Lamona and Montpellier. Beko and Blomberg are not among them. The two Beko notices are separate, older, and cover condenser machines from 2012.

Where exactly is the serial number?

Beko are precise about this: a sticker at the bottom of the inner rim of the door opening, visible with the door open. The serial is the ten-digit number on it. The model number is on the same sticker.

My machine is from 2012 and has worked fine for years. Does it still matter?

Beko’s instruction does not have an expiry date on it, and the hazard they describe is a component that could fail rather than one that fails immediately. If your serial falls in the window, contact them — it costs a phone call and the alternative is a fire risk in an appliance people habitually leave running unattended.
