Candy tumble dryer fault codes
Candy and Hoover dryers are the same machines — not similar, the same: their manuals are byte-identical documents with a different logo on the front. Before anything else, if yours is a built-in heat pump model, check the rating plate for a J7 marking, because there is a live fire safety recall covering both badges and the way to tell whether your machine has been made safe is not on either manufacturer’s website. After that, be warned that Candy publish no owner fix for any fault code on these machines. Every single one says to ring customer service.
Where the code shows on a Candy
Four different systems share these two badges, and most machines have no codes at all. Of 311 official Candy and Hoover dryer manuals, 233 document no fault codes whatsoever — the panel has named lamps for the filter and the water container, and the troubleshooting section is written in plain English with no numbers in it. If that is your machine, there is no code to look up and nothing has gone wrong with your search. The machines that do show codes use an F followed by a digit or a letter, on the Haier-built platform, and those are the pages here. A third system appears on two Hoover models only, using an E and a number, where a machine without a display signals by flashing every LED in unison — count the flashes, wait for the five-second pause, and that count is the number. Note that this is all the lamps together: a single lamp lit or blinking on a Candy or Hoover dryer is a maintenance prompt and not a code. The fourth group is the awkward one. Nineteen manuals decline to print a fault table at all and tell the owner to read the fault using the One Touch or Smart Touch phone app, which requires NFC and is Android-only. If you have an iPhone and one of those machines, the manufacturer has left you no published route to the code.
How to reset a Candy
Candy publish one reset instruction and it is the last line of their fault table: "If the error codes appear again after taking measures, switch off the appliance, disconnect the power supply and contact the customer service." On the Hoover E-code models the wording is more specific — turn off and unplug, wait a minute, turn on and restart a programme, and if the error returns contact an authorised service centre. Do the same thing we advise on every dryer first: open the door, take the washing out and spread it somewhere airy before you cut the power. Neither Candy nor Hoover mention this alongside their reset advice, and a hot part-dried load left heaped in a basket holds its heat. If your machine is a built-in heat pump model covered by the safety notice, do not reset and carry on — check the rating plate first.
Most common Candy faults
The Candy codes people look up most.
- Safety noticeStop — call an engineerA live UK fire recall covers built-in heat pump dryers under eight badges including Candy and Hoover. Machines modified before August 2025 are still at risk, and the manufacturers do not say so.
- F4Stop — call an engineerCandy word this one as "Abnormal heating" and give no owner check at all. On a dryer that is the code least worth ignoring.
- F2Get it checkedThe drain pump or the water level switch. Before you assume the worst, note that a full tank is a separate message on these machines and not this code.
- F7Get it checkedThe motor has faulted, and Candy narrow it usefully: the driver board has either overloaded or overheated.
