Miele F210 fault codewhat it means and how to fix it

Usually simple to fixWashing machineShown as F210 on segment displays and as "Check filter + nozzle" on text displays.Last updated

The suds circulation nozzle is blocked with fluff. Miele tell you to remove it with your finger. On text displays it reads "Check filter + nozzle".

Before you start

This one is usually safe to look at yourself. Do not remove any panel that is held on with screws or clips — everything below is done from the outside of the washing machine.

What F210 means

F210 reports a fault with the suds circulation system, which is the arrangement that pumps wash water from the sump back up and sprays it over the load through a nozzle at the top of the door seal. It is what stops a Miele needing to soak everything by tumbling alone, and it works well right up until the nozzle blocks.

Miele publish two causes. The first is refreshingly direct: the nozzle at the top of the door sealing ring is blocked, and you should carefully remove the fluff with your finger. The second is a blocked drain filter, for which they print their full filter-and-pump cleaning sequence, the same one as for F11, together with a scalding warning and the note that when the filters are opened water will come out of the housing. On machines with a text display the fault shows as the words "Check filter + nozzle" instead of a number — both halves of that string are on Miele’s list. The fluff that blocks the nozzle is the same fluff that comes off towels and fleece, and it accumulates over months rather than arriving suddenly, so this is a maintenance item rather than a breakdown.

Miele add one line no other code on their list carries: the washing machine can still be used, but with reduced functionality. Work gently at the nozzle — it sits in the rubber of the door seal and you are aiming to lift a plug of lint out of it rather than push it further in.

What to try yourself

  1. Switch the machine off before reaching into the drum opening.

  2. Find the nozzle at the top of the rubber door seal, at roughly the twelve o’clock position.

  3. Carefully lift the fluff out with a finger, as Miele instruct. Pull it towards you rather than pushing it in.

  4. While you are there, run a hand right round the bottom of the seal and clear whatever has collected in the fold.

  5. If the nozzle was clear, clean the drain filter and pump following Miele’s sequence on the F11 page: switch off, open the access panel, container underneath, unscrew the filters slowly to let the water out, clean them, check the pump impellers turn, refit on the correct side and screw tight. Miele’s own note for this code: press the filter gently into the housing as you unscrew it so it does not suddenly fall out.

Miele warn of scalding if laundry has just been washed at a high temperature, and that water will come out of the housing when the filters are opened.

Get a qualified appliance engineer to look at your Miele F210

We do not pass enquiries to a repair firm, so there is no form here. When you book a qualified appliance engineer, tell them the make, the model and the exact code or message on the display, and ask whether they carry parts for this make — that is what turns one visit into a repair rather than a quote.

Nothing. Miele’s stated remedies are to remove the fluff with your finger and, if needed, clean the drain filter and pump yourself.

Common questions about Miele F210

My display says "Check filter + nozzle" rather than F210.

Same fault. Miele machines with a text display spell it out; segment displays show the number. Miele name both halves — the nozzle at the top of the door seal and the drain filter — so start with the nozzle, which is the quicker check, and do the filter if that was clear.

Can I keep using the machine?

Miele say yes: the washing machine can still be used but with reduced functionality. Clear the nozzle and filter when you can rather than living with it.

How often does this need doing?

It is maintenance rather than a repair. If you wash a lot of towels or fleece, checking the nozzle and the door seal fold every few months will stop it recurring.
