LG fridge or freezer fault codes

LG publish more about their fridge codes than any other manufacturer sold in the UK, including the two things nobody else gives you: a list split into faults and non-faults, and a button sequence to make the appliance show its code after a power cut has wiped the display.

Where the code shows on a LG

Ignore the prefix. LG state that their codes may be preceded by E, r or Er depending on the model, so dH, F dH, Er dH, FdH and dHF are all the same code and lead to the same answer. What matters is the two characters at the core. The one thing a prefix letter can tell you is which compartment: in LG’s per-code articles an F in front means the freezer side and an r means the refrigerator side, which does not change the fault but does tell you where to look. If the display is blank after a power cut, LG publish a way to bring the code back: hold Freezer Temperature and Express Frz together for at least three seconds.

How to reset a LG

LG publish two resets and both are theirs. In the master code list, for the freezer cycle and flow sensor codes, it is unplug the appliance, wait sixty seconds, and plug it back into a direct wall socket — they specifically say without power strips or multiple sockets — then allow up to five minutes for a full restart before judging whether anything changed. In their per-code articles for the fan, communication and cooling codes it is longer: pull the plug or trip the breaker, and restore power after about five minutes. Note that on LG, unlike Samsung, a ten second power cycle does clear shop mode, so if your fridge is lit but not cooling that is worth trying early.

OFFShop mode. LG publish how it gets switched on by accident at home, and give two ways out — including a ten second power cycle that does work on LG.Get it checked
FFFreezer fan. LG’s master list says request service, but their own dedicated article gives owner steps, and the usual cause is frost around the motor.Get it checked
dHThe defrost cycle ran and the temperature did not rise. LG give the exact test it failed, and their own per-code articles give a reset and a long manual defrost before the service call.Get it checked
Beeping with the door closedLG publish seven causes and a door switch test you can do with a finger. The fridge thinks a door is open, and usually something is holding it.Usually simple to fix
FUThe freezer did not get cold enough in the time allowed. LG give real owner steps for this one, including a paper test for the door seals.Get it checked
CHLG’s master list calls this a refrigerant leak. Their per-code article is more careful: a cooling-power inspection code that can be temporary in use, with a five minute reset before the service call.Get it checked
LoNot a fault. LG classify this as a warning that the room is below minus ten degrees, which is why garage fridges misbehave in winter.Usually simple to fix
gFThe water flow sensor. LG break their own request-service rule here too, and all three of their named causes are outside the appliance.Get it checked
