Miele microwave fault codes
Miele microwaves do not use fault codes. They put sentences on the display instead, so find the words you can see below rather than a number you will not find.
Where the code shows on a Miele
There is no code list on this page because Miele do not publish one. Their microwave operating instructions contain a problem-solving guide with no code, no number and no letter-and-digit string in it anywhere — every condition is reported as an English phrase. The ones worth recognising are Food in oven?, which is a guard against running the appliance empty; Demo mode, which is the showroom state where the appliance lights up and never heats; System lock and Sensor lock, which are two different locks with two different behaviours; Close the door, which appears whenever a programme is interrupted by the door opening; and Keeping warm, which is a documented feature rather than the appliance restarting on its own. Miele also use two words in ways that trip people up: the appliance in these manuals is the "microwave oven" throughout, and a combination model with a microwave function is documented as an oven with different messages entirely. If your appliance has a water tank, a steam function or a pyrolytic clean, you have a combination oven rather than a microwave.
How to reset a Miele
Miele give no reset procedure for a microwave, because there is nothing to reset. Their problem-solving guide handles a programme that will not start as a checklist rather than a reset: is the door closed, is the system lock on, is Food in oven? showing because the door has not been opened for about twenty minutes, is the appliance plugged in and switched on at the socket, and has the mains fuse tripped. The order matters and so does where they put the fuse — last, and with an instruction to stop rather than to reset it. If the fuse has gone, Miele say there could be a fault with the appliance, with the household supply or with another appliance, and to disconnect it and contact a qualified electrician or Miele customer service. That is the right advice on a microwave in particular, because these appliances are built to blow their own fuse deliberately if the door interlock monitoring detects a problem. The two locks release the same way, OK held for at least six seconds, but differently in effect: the system lock comes off until the appliance is next switched off, the sensor lock only "for a short period". Both are switched on and off permanently under Settings, Safety. Demo mode toggles with OK held for at least four seconds.
Most common Miele faults
The Miele codes people look up most.
- Food in oven?Usually simple to fixA deliberate guard, not a fault. Miele will not start a programme it believes has no food in it, and they publish the exact trigger.
- Switches itself off during a programmeGet it checkedMiele publish a two-branch diagnosis for this. Clearing after a cooling period means airflow; doing it again after cooling means service.
- System lockUsually simple to fixMiele publish two separate locks with different behaviour. The system lock survives a power cut, which is why unplugging the appliance changes nothing.
- Demo modeUsually simple to fixThe showroom setting. Miele say the appliance does not heat up in demo mode, and Off in the Showroom programme setting, confirmed with OK held for four seconds, turns it off.
