Bosch LOC fault codewhat it means and how to fix it

Usually simple to fixOvenLast updated

Bosch UK say the child lock shows LOC. None of their own manuals says that — six of them describe a key symbol or SAFE, and none mentions LOC at all.

Before you start

This one is usually safe to look at yourself. Do not remove any panel that is held on with screws or clips — everything below is done from the outside of the oven.

What LOC means

The child lock itself is simple: it stops the oven being operated, and holding the lock button until the symbol disappears releases it. The reason this needs a page is that Bosch cannot agree with themselves about what it looks like. Their UK website tells you to check whether the display shows a key symbol or LOC. We read six Bosch GB oven manuals and none of them mentions LOC anywhere — they describe the childproof lock as a key symbol, and elsewhere in the group as the word SAFE.

LOC is a display string other manufacturers use, and we could not verify it on any Bosch oven. So if your Bosch shows LOC, we cannot confirm from Bosch documentation that it is the child lock, and if you are hunting for LOC on your display because their website told you to, you may be looking for something your appliance never shows. The hold time is inconsistent too, though harmlessly so. Bosch’s manuals say approximately four seconds and their website says around five. Holding longer costs nothing, so use the larger figure.

What to try yourself

  1. Look for a key symbol on the display rather than the letters LOC. The key symbol is what Bosch’s own manuals describe, and it is the one we can confirm.

  2. Press and hold the key or lock button until the symbol disappears. Bosch’s website says around five seconds and their manuals say roughly four, so hold for the longer of the two.

  3. Try changing a setting to confirm the oven is responding again, which is Bosch’s own final step.

  4. If your model has no dedicated lock button, check the manual. Bosch acknowledge that some models need a button combination and do not publish which.

Get a qualified appliance engineer to look at your Bosch LOC

We do not pass enquiries to a repair firm, so there is no form here. When you book a qualified appliance engineer, tell them the make, the model and the exact code or message on the display, and ask whether they carry parts for this make — that is what turns one visit into a repair rather than a quote.

No engineer has read this page. Severity follows what the manufacturer publishes, and we would rather tell you that than let a byline imply a sign-off.

What we check instead

Sources and how we verified this

We establish the facts from the sources below and then write the explanation ourselves. We do not copy manufacturer wording and we do not host their manuals.

  • Manufacturer support portal
  • Manufacturer technical and service documentation

This page has not been reviewed by an engineer, and we would rather tell you that than imply otherwise. The severity rating follows what the manufacturer publishes: where they say isolate the appliance and call someone, so do we.
