This fault can involve incomplete combustion and carbon monoxide.

An open safety programme covers four New World 100cm gas range cookers. Used with the grill door closed they can produce extremely dangerous levels of carbon monoxide.
Stop — this needs an engineer
Get a qualified appliance engineer to look at your New World range cooker
We do not pass enquiries to a repair firm, so there is no form here. When you book a qualified appliance engineer, tell them the make, the model and the exact code or message on the display, and ask whether they carry parts for this make — that is what turns one visit into a repair rather than a quote.
Which New World do you have?
The right answer depends on what you can see. Pick the one that matches.
Choose the option on the left that matches what your appliance is doing, and the answer for that case appears here.
Which New World do you have?
The four New World models the report names are all 100cm: 444440218, 444440462, 444444200 and 444444201. Open the main oven door and read the badge on the frame below the cavity. If yours is one of them, you are in the programme; if it is a different New World gas range, ring anyway and let them check.
Until it is checked, use the gas grill only with the door open, and ring 0800 110 5728 to register for the free modification.
Which New World do you have?
This still matters, and the regulator says so explicitly. The manufacturer cannot trace the current owner of an appliance that has changed hands, which is a large part of why 66,000 appliances are still being looked for.
Contact Glen Dimplex anyway so they can trace the new owner. It is a two-minute call and it is the only route they have.
Which New World do you have?
This programme does not apply to you. It is specific to gas range cookers with a gas grill, and there is no equivalent electric notice.
Nothing to do here. If you have a code on the hob, the platform pages for Stoves and Belling are the useful route.
What this means
This is a live safety programme rather than a fault code, and it is on this page because the official route to it is broken for New World owners specifically.
The regulator’s finding is that certain Belling, Stoves and New World gas range cookers with a gas grill, made by Glen Dimplex Home Appliances and used with the grill door closed, can produce extremely dangerous levels of carbon monoxide, posing a significant risk to health and death. The risk is rated serious. Cookers bought at any time between 2010 and 2022 are in scope, in 110cm, 100cm and 90cm sizes across the three brands; the New World models named are four 100cm cookers, 444440218 and 444440462 (NW 100GT) and 444444200 and 444444201 (NW 100G). When the regulator intervened in November 2022 it put the figure at more than 66,000 appliances across the three brands and said the manufacturer had agreed to visit every home containing one. The report has not been updated since, and the modification programme is presented as ongoing rather than closed.
The interim instruction is narrow and specific: use the gas grill only with the door open. The manufacturer’s own wording explains why, and it is the clearest sentence written on the subject — the grill cavity in these appliances is designed for open door grilling, and the grill must not be used as an oven, a space heater, or any other purpose. The free modification is booked on 0800 110 5728.
Here is the part that applies to you and not to Stoves or Belling owners. The government report directs New World owners to newworld.family for their safety information. That domain is dead. When we checked on 3 September 2026 it returned a 404 and an expired-website message, and it has no content of any kind. The regulator’s own news release linked only the Belling and Stoves sites. New World’s website has since come back under Glen Dimplex, and it has no safety notice page at all. And the Belling and Stoves safety pages, which do work, list only their own brands’ models. A live government report for a serious carbon monoxide risk is pointing New World owners at nothing, and the only manufacturer document on the web that names your cooker is a November 2022 media statement PDF filed on the Belling site.
So the four model numbers are printed above, taken from the regulator’s own list, and the rest of the programme is the same manufacturer, the same platform and the same phone number as Belling and Stoves. Ring the number, which works.
What causes it
| Cause | What is actually happening | How likely |
|---|---|---|
| Grilling with the door closed on an affected cooker | The specific condition named in the regulator’s finding. The hazard is not the cooker sitting there; it is that configuration in use, which is why the interim instruction is about how you grill rather than about switching the appliance off. | Common |
| An owner who never found out, because the brand has no safety page | Not a mechanical cause but the reason this programme is still open. The official signpost for New World owners leads to an expired domain, the revived New World site carries no safety notice, and the Belling and Stoves pages list only their own models, so a large share of affected households have no realistic way of learning they are affected. | Common |
| The grill cavity used as an oven or a heater | The manufacturer calls this out separately. Using the grill compartment for anything other than open door grilling is outside what the appliance was designed for and is named in their own safety wording. | Occasional |
| Inadequate ventilation in the kitchen | A contributing factor the manufacturer raises across their gas documentation. Gas cooking produces heat, moisture and combustion products, and their instruction is to keep natural ventilation open and consider more when the appliance is in heavy use. | Occasional |

What it costs to fix
Typical repair cost
£0
The modification is free of charge. The manufacturer agreed with the regulator to visit every home containing an affected cooker, and there is no charge to the owner regardless of the appliance’s age or guarantee status.

Common questions
Can I still use the rest of the cooker?
The regulator’s and the manufacturer’s interim instruction is about the gas grill and how it is used: only with the door open. Neither of them tells owners to stop using the appliance entirely. We are quoting their scope rather than widening it, but if you are at all unsure about your own cooker, ring the number and ask before assuming.
How do I know whether my model is on the list?
Four New World models are named, all 100cm: 444440218 and 444440462, sold as the NW 100GT, and 444444200 and 444444201, sold as the NW 100G. They appear in the regulator’s PDF list and in Glen Dimplex’s November 2022 media statement, and nowhere else we could find: the Belling and Stoves safety notice pages list only their own brands, and the revived New World site has no notice at all. Glen Dimplex say the model number, nine digits beginning 4444, and the serial number are on a badge on the frame below the oven cavity, seen by opening the main oven door.
Is this the same as the other Belling recall I have read about?
No, and it is worth keeping them apart because they have different phone numbers. This one is about the gas grill on large range cookers and uses 0800 110 5728. There is a separate programme on Belling 60cm gas cookers, about an incorrect part that may have been fitted to the flue pipe, on 0800 093 9945. Ringing the wrong one puts you in the wrong queue.
Should I get a carbon monoxide alarm?
An audible carbon monoxide alarm is sensible in any home with a gas appliance, and this is exactly the kind of hazard one is for — carbon monoxide has no smell and the early symptoms read as a headache or feeling run down. It is not a substitute for having the cooker modified, and nobody is suggesting it is.
