LG CC fault codewhat it means and how to fix it

Usually simple to fixTumble dryerLG heat pump machines using the alphanumeric code set that print the CC row — the RHX1009NNK among the UK manuals read; the FDC309W, FDV909W and FDV709GN manuals have no CC row. The premium heat pump range shows the phrase "Service cover error" instead, referring to the inner service coverLast updated

The inner condenser cover is not fitted. This is a code that only appears after you have cleaned something, which makes it good news dressed as a fault.

Before you start

This one is usually safe to look at yourself. Do not remove any panel that is held on with screws or clips — everything below is done from the outside of the tumble dryer.

What CC means

LG label this CONDENSER COVER ERROR with the cause "The appliance is being operated without the Inner Condenser cover", and the instruction "Open the Outer Condenser Cover. Assemble the Inner Condenser Cover. If the error reoccurs, call for service." Note there are two covers, an outer and an inner, and it is the inner one the machine is looking for. This is what you might call a maintenance-aftermath code. It does not appear because something has worn out or blocked up; it appears because somebody has been into the condenser compartment and not put it back together correctly.

In practice that means it turns up shortly after a cleaning session, and in a strange way it is a compliment — you have found the part of the machine most owners never open. The cover matters more than it appears to. It seals the air path so that everything the fan moves goes through the condenser rather than around it.

Left off or left loose, air short-circuits past the condenser, the machine dries poorly, and it runs hotter than it should. So this code is the machine stopping you from undoing your own good work. Push the inner cover until it is properly home, close the outer one, and it clears.

What causes it

Causes of the LG CC fault code, most common first
CauseWhat is actually happeningHow likely
The inner cover was left off after cleaningThe great majority of these. With two covers to deal with, it is easy to refit the outer one and leave the inner one propped somewhere, and from the front the machine looks entirely normal.Common
The inner cover is fitted but not latchedSeated and latched are different states and only one of them registers. A cover resting in position looks correct and does not seal the air path.Common
The cover is on the wrong way round or its locks were not turned backLG’s cover is held by locks you turn to release it, and their refitting instruction is specific: "Fit the cover with the hole below", then "Reinsert and reassemble the condenser cover completely." A cover fitted upside down or with the locks left open is not reassembled as far as the machine is concerned.Occasional
A broken latch or a failed detection switchThese are plastic parts opened by hand and sometimes with force. Where the cover is demonstrably fitted and latched and the code persists, LG’s own escalation applies.Occasional

What to try yourself

  1. Switch the machine off, then open the access panel at the bottom front of the appliance — LG’s instruction is to press the top part of the panel to open it. This is the outer cover in the code table’s wording.

  2. Behind it is the condenser cover, held by locks. If the code appeared after a clean, the cover is probably off, loose or on the wrong way up. Take it off by turning the locks and pulling, and while it is off, look at the condenser fins for lint.

LG’s caution: "To avoid physical injury and burns, do not touch or clean the condenser with bare hands." Use a vacuum cleaner or a soft brush, gentle pressure, in a vertical direction so as not to damage the fins.
  3. Refit the cover the way LG describe: "Fit the cover with the hole below", then "Reinsert and reassemble the condenser cover completely", turning the locks back. LG name this as a separate step from the outer panel for a reason.

  4. Check the locks and the cover edge for cracks or a missing tab, which is the usual reason a cover will not stay put.

  5. Close the access panel, restart and run a short cycle. If the code clears, the cover was the whole story. LG warn that an incompletely reassembled cover also "may leak onto the floor during operation", so a puddle under the machine points the same way.

  6. If it reoccurs with both covers properly fitted, LG’s instruction is to call for service.

Get a qualified appliance engineer to look at your LG CC

We do not pass enquiries to a repair firm, so there is no form here. When you book a qualified appliance engineer, tell them the make, the model and the exact code or message on the display, and ask whether they carry parts for this make — that is what turns one visit into a repair rather than a quote.

What it costs to fix

Typical repair cost

£0–£120

10 minutes

Free in nearly every case, since this is a cover that needs fitting properly. A broken latch or a failed detection switch is the only chargeable outcome and is at the cheaper end.

Common questions about LG CC

It started right after I cleaned the condenser.

Then you have the answer. This code exists for exactly that situation. Open it back up and refit the cover the way LG describe — hole at the bottom, locks turned back, "reassemble the condenser cover completely" — rather than until it looks right.

There are two covers. Which one does it mean?

The inner one. LG’s instruction is to open the outer condenser cover in order to assemble the inner condenser cover, so the outer one — the access panel in the cleaning chapter — is just the door you go through. The inner cover is the one the machine detects.

Does LG have a code for the condenser being dirty?

No. This code detects a missing cover, not a blocked condenser. What LG do instead is clean the condenser automatically — the control panel has a symbol that "lights up when the appliance is automatically cleaning the condenser" — and their manual adds a manual check: "If drying performance deteriorates, open the condenser cover to check for foreign substances or lint build up." The filter has a reminder symbol at every power-on rather than a blockage code.

My display says "Service cover error" rather than CC.

Same fault, different generation. LG’s premium heat pump machines write phrases instead of codes, and theirs is "Service cover error" with the cause given as the appliance being operated without the inner service cover.
