Samsung Sud fault codewhat it means and how to fix it

What Sud means
Foam is a genuine problem for a washing machine rather than a cosmetic one. A drum full of suds cushions the load so the machine cannot read the balance properly, and foam pushed into the pump makes it cavitate instead of moving water. So when the machine detects excessive foam it pauses, runs extra rinses, and shows Sud while it deals with it. Samsung note that the machine will usually resolve this on its own, which is the first thing to understand: seeing Sud does not mean you need to do anything except wait. Samsung machines see this more than most, and there is a reason. The ecobubble system deliberately whips detergent into foam before it enters the drum, so the same dose that behaved itself in an older machine can be too much here. Add the fact that most people pour by eye rather than measuring, that liquid detergent is easy to over-pour, and that a soft water area needs perhaps half what the bottle suggests, and the result is a lot of unnecessary foam.

What to try yourself
Do nothing for twenty minutes. The machine will normally run extra rinses and clear the foam by itself, and interrupting it just means starting again.
If it has not cleared, run a rinse and spin with no detergent at all to flush the remaining foam out.
Cut the dose. Try two thirds of what you have been using, and half if you are in a soft water area. Almost nobody needs a full cap.
If the machine keeps foaming even on a reduced dose, run a maintenance wash — Samsung suggest an Eco Drum Clean, or a 90°C cotton cycle with an empty drum and no detergent — to clear the residue out of the system.

Common questions about Samsung Sud
Have I damaged the machine?
No. Sud is the machine noticing a problem and managing it, which is the opposite of damage. Persistent heavy foaming over years is not good for the pump, but a few over-enthusiastic washes have done nothing.
Why does my Samsung do this when my old machine never did?
The ecobubble system aerates detergent deliberately before it reaches the drum. That is the point of it, and it means the same dose you used for years produces noticeably more foam.
How much detergent should I actually use?
Less than the bottle says, unless you have a full load of heavily soiled washing in a hard water area. For an average half load in soft water, half the recommended dose is usually plenty.
