EH0 belongs to the EH family, which in the Electrolux scheme means the power supply, and the manufacturer states plainly that it indicates a problem with the power supply. The neighbouring codes make the family unambiguous: EH1 is the supply frequency out of range, EH2 is the supply voltage too high, and EH3 is too low. This page carries a correction, because a widely read third-party guide describes EH0 as an older equivalent of E10 and E11 and tells readers to check the tap, the hose and the inlet filter. That is wrong, and it is wrong in a way that matters. Somebody whose machine is reporting a mains supply fault could spend an afternoon cleaning a perfectly good water filter while an electrical problem — possibly in the house rather than the appliance — goes unexamined. The manufacturer’s own guidance carries a warning against using extension cables, on the grounds that they can cause a short circuit or a fire hazard, and it tells owners to contact a local electrician for advice on wiring problems. There is also a diagnostic in that guidance worth repeating: if another appliance in the same socket also misbehaves, the problem is probably the wiring rather than the washing machine.

What to try yourself
Check what the machine is plugged into. If it is an extension lead, a multi-way adaptor or a socket shared with something else that draws heavily, move it to its own wall socket. The manufacturer names extension cables as a short-circuit and fire hazard in the guidance for this exact code.
If there is any sign of scorching or melting at the plug, the socket or the lead, stop, switch off at the consumer unit and get an electrician. Do not plug it in again.Plug something else into the same socket — a kettle or a lamp — and see whether it works normally. This is the manufacturer’s own test, and a second appliance misbehaving points at the wiring rather than the washing machine.
Check the consumer unit for a tripped breaker or RCD, and reset it once if you find one. A breaker that trips again immediately is telling you something and should not be reset repeatedly.

I read that EH0 is a water filling problem. Which is right?
The manufacturer is. AEG and Zanussi both publish EH0 as a power supply problem, with EH1 for frequency out of range, EH2 for voltage too high and EH3 for voltage too low. At least one prominent third-party guide describes it as a water fill fault and sends readers to the tap and inlet filter. That guidance would have you looking at plumbing while an electrical fault sits unexamined.
Do I need an electrician or an appliance engineer?
Work that out with the socket test first. If another appliance also fails in that socket, you want an electrician. If everything else works fine there and only the washing machine complains, you want an appliance engineer. Getting this the wrong way round costs a wasted call-out.
Why is an extension lead such a problem?
A washing machine draws a lot of current, particularly while heating, and extension leads and multi-way adaptors are not built for a sustained load of that size. The manufacturer raises short circuit and fire risk in this specific code’s guidance, which is a strong signal for a document that is otherwise fairly dry.
