Baumatic dishwasher fault codes

Baumatic dishwashers come in two generations and it matters which you have. Baumatic has been part of the Candy Group since late 2013, and the machines built on Candy’s platform since then use Candy’s fault table: E2 for no water, E3 for no drain, E4 for a leak, E8 or Ei for heating, with models lacking a display flashing every light the error number instead. Those are the codes on these pages. The Baumatic-built machines that came before — the BDI632, BDWS60SS, BDF665W, BDWI640 and BDFS409 — speak a different language in which E1 is a slow fill, E3 is a heating fault and E4 is water in the base, so on those machines two of the codes here mean something else. The current BDIH 1L952-80 and 2L952-80 are different again and show no codes at all. Check the model number on the door edge before you read anything else.

Where the code shows on a Baumatic

On the Candy-built machines with a display, the 2016-era manuals head the table "Automatic fault signals" and note that the dishwasher is able to signal a series of faults in the display; the current manuals say errors are reported by a number preceded by the letter E and a short audio signal, and some models show the words CHECK WATER in place of E2. Candy-built machines without a display show an error as a sequence of flashes of every LED — the number of flashes followed by a pause of five seconds, so two flashes, pause, two flashes, repeating, is Error 2. The 2016-era no-display manuals (BDIF613, BDID615) publish only that one or more LED flashing quickly means the water inlet tap is turned off. The pre-2014 Baumatic-built machines are different again. On the BDI632, if the appliance senses it is not operating correctly a combination of the programme indicator neons may flash: intense wash flashing means a longer than expected fill time, economy wash flashing means a longer or extended drain time, and both together means the machine has sensed water in the base — and if any other combination flashes, Baumatic say not to attempt to clear it yourself. The BDWI640 flashes the RAPID light for a slow fill and the GLASS light for water in the base. The BDF665W shows E1 for a slow fill or drain, E3 for slow heating, E4 for water in the base and E6 or E7 for the thermistor; the BDWS60SS shows E-1 for a slow fill and E-2 for water in the base. The current Midea-built BDIH 1L952-80 and BDIH 2L952-80 have no codes at all: all the LEDs flashing once every three seconds is a water-inlet problem, three times every three seconds means the anti-flood device has tripped.

How to reset a Baumatic

The fault table’s own wording is to switch the dishwasher off, deal with the cause and reset the cycle, and the manuals do publish how. On the BDIF616 you open the door and hold the RESET button down for at least 5 seconds; "00" appears on the display, some audible signals sound and the running programme is cancelled, after which a new one can be set. On the current no-display models such as the BDIN 1L38B-80 the same is done by holding START/RESET for at least 3 seconds. For any code the current tables do not list, Candy’s instruction is to turn off and unplug the dishwasher, wait a minute, turn it on and restart a programme, and to contact an Authorised Customer Service Centre if the error returns. The pre-2014 Baumatic-written manuals want the appliance disconnected from the mains before any maintenance, and once the cause is dealt with, plugged back in and switched on with the ON/OFF button, waiting five seconds before setting a programme; if the fault reappears after that, turn the appliance off, disconnect it from the mains and arrange for an engineer.
