Mira M status codewhat it means

Usually simple to fixElectric showerLast updated

Flashing white. Not a breakdown — the shower was switched off at the cord before it finished its shutdown, and it will not restart properly until it settles.

Before you start

This one is usually safe to look at yourself. Do not remove any panel that is held on with screws or clips — everything below is done from the outside of the electric shower.

What M means

Code M is the most interesting entry in Mira’s table because it is a fault code for something the user did, and Mira know it well enough to build a warning about it into the installation. The Advance does not stop the instant you press the button. It runs a phased shutdown, flushing the heater with cool water and bringing itself down in a controlled way, and the lights pulse while that is happening. Cut the power at the pull cord during that window and the appliance is interrupted mid-sequence, which is what M reports.

Their commissioning instructions tell the installer, in capitals, not to isolate at the pull cord until the water flow stops and the lights stop pulsing, and then to advise the user of the same thing — because isolating early "may damage the shower and will not start up correctly for the next use resulting in fault code M". The immediate remedy is simply to wait: Mira say fifteen seconds, until the lights stop flashing, before trying to start it again.

The reason this is rated as information rather than as a fault is that nothing has broken and nothing needs replacing. The reason it is here at all is that the behaviour causing it is close to universal. Almost everybody pulls the cord as they step out of the shower, because that is what you are told to do with an electric shower and it is correct on nearly every other model. On this one it interrupts something, and Mira’s own warning is that doing it repeatedly may damage the appliance rather than merely annoy it.

What causes it

Causes of the Mira M status code, most common first
CauseWhat is actually happeningHow likely
Power pulled during the phased shutdownThe documented cause. The cord goes as you step out, the shutdown sequence is still running, and the appliance records an incorrect shutdown.Common
Habit carried over from another showerIsolating immediately is right on most electric showers and wrong on this one, so people who have swapped brands hit it repeatedly.Common
Supply interruption during shutdownA power cut or a breaker operating at the wrong moment produces the same interrupted sequence without anyone touching the cord.Occasional

What to try yourself

  1. Wait fifteen seconds and let the lights stop flashing before you try to start the shower again. Mira give fifteen seconds specifically.

  2. Start it normally. If it runs, nothing is wrong with the appliance and the code has done its job.

  3. From now on, press Start/Stop and wait. The water will stop and the lights will stop pulsing, and only then is it right to pull the cord.

  4. Tell everyone else in the house. This is a habit rather than a fault, so it will keep recurring until the person causing it knows about it.

Get a qualified electrician to look at your Mira M

We do not pass enquiries to a repair firm, so there is no form here. When you book a qualified electrician, tell them the make, the model and the exact code or message on the display, and ask whether they carry parts for this make — that is what turns one visit into a repair rather than a quote.

Nothing. This is a sequencing message rather than a fault, and the fix is a change of habit rather than a part.

Common questions about Mira M

Have I damaged the shower by pulling the cord too early?

Once, almost certainly not. Mira’s wording is that isolating before the flow has stopped "may damage the shower", and it is the repetition rather than a single occurrence that is worth avoiding.

Should I stop switching the shower off at the pull cord?

No. Isolating an electric shower when it is not in use is sound practice and manufacturers recommend it. The point is only about timing — press the button, let the shutdown finish, then pull the cord.

How long does the shutdown actually take?

Mira tell you to wait fifteen seconds after the lights start flashing before attempting a restart, and the shutdown itself ends when the water stops and the lights stop pulsing. Watch the lights rather than the clock.
