Samsung C-20 fault codewhat it means and how to fix it

Get it checkedOvenLast updated

A sensor fault. Samsung group four codes here — and one of them, C-23, is in every UK manual and missing from their website entirely.

Take care

Some of this is safe to check yourself, but the repair itself is not. If the fault comes back after one reset, stop resetting it and get a qualified appliance engineer to look at the Samsung properly.

What C-20 means

Samsung’s manuals group C-20, C-21, C-22 and C-23 into a single row headed sensor malfunctions, with one shared remedy: turn off the oven and restart, and if the problem continues, turn off all power for 30 seconds or more and reconnect, and if that does not fix it, contact a service centre.

Samsung’s website reproduces exactly that group as C-20, C-21 and C-22, and drops C-23. We checked all four UK manuals — Series 4, 5, 6 and 7 — and C-23 is in every one of them. So if you are here because your oven shows C-23 and Samsung’s own site told you no such code exists, nothing unusual has happened to your appliance. It is a sensor code, identical in Samsung’s treatment to the three published beside it, and the omission is one character of website copy.

As for what the codes mean, Samsung give you two words and no distinction between the four numbers. An oven relies on temperature sensing to hold a set temperature, so a sensor fault is the sort of thing that produces an oven that will not heat, will not hold a temperature, or cuts out mid-cook.

What causes it

Causes of the Samsung C-20 fault code, most common first
CauseWhat is actually happeningHow likely
A temperature sensor or its wiring has failedThe reasonable reading of Samsung’s two-word description. An open or short circuit anywhere in the sensor path reports the same way as a failed probe.Common
A transient fault a power cycle clearsThe possibility Samsung’s remedy is built around, since they have you restart and then power cycle before escalating to a service centre.Common
A connection problem between the sensor and the control boardDistinct from a failed sensor and indistinguishable from outside the appliance, which is why the diagnosis belongs to whoever opens it.Occasional

What to try yourself

  1. Turn the oven off and restart it, which is Samsung’s first published step.

  2. If it returns, turn off all power for 30 seconds or more and then reconnect — at the plug if the oven has one, otherwise at the cooker switch or the breaker. Samsung install these ovens either way.

  3. Set the clock once power is restored. Samsung’s troubleshooting guide says an oven that will not start may simply have no time set, so a reset that leaves the clock blank can look like a failed reset.

  4. If the code persists, contact a service centre and quote the exact code including the number, since the four in this group mean different things to an engineer.

Get a qualified appliance engineer to look at your Samsung C-20

We do not pass enquiries to a repair firm, so there is no form here. When you book a qualified appliance engineer, tell them the make, the model and the exact code or message on the display, and ask whether they carry parts for this make — that is what turns one visit into a repair rather than a quote.

What it costs to fix

Typical repair cost

£90–£200

Time on site

10 minutes

An oven temperature sensor is typically £20 to £45 as a part, with the visit making up most of the cost. Nothing at all if a power cycle clears it.

Typical UK prices including parts and labour, updated September 2026. Your quote may differ.

Not reviewed by an engineer

No engineer has read this page. Severity follows what the manufacturer publishes, and we would rather tell you that than let a byline imply a sign-off.

What we check instead

Sources and how we verified this

We establish the facts from the sources below and then write the explanation ourselves. We do not copy manufacturer wording and we do not host their manuals.

  • Manufacturer support portal
  • Manufacturer technical and service documentation

This page has not been reviewed by an engineer, and we would rather tell you that than imply otherwise. The severity rating follows what the manufacturer publishes: where they say isolate the appliance and call someone, so do we.
