SMA Sunny Boy fault codes
The common domestic single-phase range: Sunny Boy 1.5 to 2.5, Sunny Boy 3.0 to 6.0, and the earlier Sunny Boy 3000TL to 5000TL-21 with a display. All three publish events 3501, 3601 and 3701 with the same meanings; the oldest display models showed the two-digit form, 35, 36 and 37, or the text message Riso. Transformerless, which matters here — SMA warn that transformerless inverters can be damaged by sporadic ground faults occurring during operation.
Codes on the Sunny Boy follow the same SMA scheme as the rest of the range. Where a code behaves differently on this generation, the code page says so.

- 3501Insulation resistance too low. SMA are unusually direct: the error is not caused by the inverter, it is in the DC installation — and it can come and go with the weather.Stop — call an engineer
- Inverter not connecting to the gridSMA disable the grid connection deliberately when a pre-start check fails. The event number in the Results menu is what tells you which check.Get it checked
- 3701Residual current. Unlike the insulation event this one trips a running system, and SMA publish the threshold: a sudden jump of 30 milliamps or more.Stop — call an engineer
