Beko EA2 fault codewhat it means and how to fix it

Stop — call an engineerWashing machinePublished in the BW1O3721W, BW1O3821W and BW1O3841BW manuals; the BMM5DFO5741W washer-dryer manual routes every code outside its own five to EXX. EA1 is the companion code for the switch itselfLast updated

The water level is abnormally high. Beko print two words — power off — and on a machine that cannot stop filling that is the right instruction.

Get a qualified appliance engineer to look at your Beko EA2

We do not pass enquiries to a repair firm, so there is no form here. When you book a qualified appliance engineer, tell them the make, the model and the exact code or message on the display, and ask whether they carry parts for this make — that is what turns one visit into a repair rather than a quote.

What EA2 means

EA2 is "Water level abnormally high" and its companion EA1 is "Water level switch failure". Beko give both the same two-word remedy, "Power off", and of all the codes where they do that this is the one where the brevity is most clearly deliberate. Take the two together and the picture is straightforward. The level switch is what tells the machine to stop filling.

EA1 says that switch has failed; EA2 says the level has gone above where it should be. Either way the machine has lost or overridden the thing that protects it from overfilling, and the cabinet it would overfill into contains a mains-voltage element, a motor and a control board. Do the two things that take the risk away and do them now: turn off the water tap behind the machine, then switch off at the wall and unplug it. Water off matters as much as power off, because a machine that is isolated electrically can still be filled by a stuck valve if the tap is open.

Then leave it. This is not a code to reset and run again to see whether it recurs. Beko offer nothing for you to check and there is nothing outside the cabinet that would tell you whether the switch, its pressure hose or the inlet valve is at fault.

What causes it

Causes of the Beko EA2 fault code, most common first
CauseWhat is actually happeningHow likely
Water level switch failedThe EA1 fault, named separately by Beko. The machine has lost the sensor that decides when the tub is full.Common
Pressure hose blocked, split or offThe thin tube carrying pressure from the tub to the switch. Gives a steady wrong reading rather than none, and is cheap to put right.Common
Inlet valve not closingA valve stuck part open fills the machine whether it was asked to or not. The reason turning the tap off matters as much as unplugging.Occasional
Siphoning through a badly fitted drain hoseA drain hose set too low can draw water through the machine. Beko name the syphon effect on their inflow code for the same reason.Occasional

Can you fix it yourself?

What it costs to fix

Typical repair cost

£90–£220

A pressure switch or a displaced hose is at the cheap end, £90 to £160 with the visit. An inlet valve is similar. Where an overfill has reached the electronics, the bill moves toward the value of the machine.

Typical UK prices including parts and labour, updated September 2026. Your quote may differ.

Common questions about Beko EA2

There is no water on the floor. Do I still need to act?

Yes, and finding it before there is water on the floor is the good outcome. The level being above where the machine expects it does not mean it has escaped yet. Turn the tap off and unplug it, and you have contained the problem rather than waited for it.

Why turn the tap off as well as the power?

Because a stuck inlet valve does not need electricity to pass water. If the fault is a valve that will not close, unplugging the machine achieves nothing at all and the tap is the only thing standing between you and a flood. Beko name a syphon effect as a cause on the related inflow code, which is the same idea.

Can I drain it and get the washing out?

Drain it through the pump filter using your manual’s own draining procedure rather than by running a programme. Any cycle you start hands the water back to a machine that cannot measure it, which is the specific thing to avoid here. Use a proper container, not a tray — an overfilled drum holds far more than a normal residue — have towels down, and let the water cool first.

What is EA1 and do I have that instead?

EA1 is the same subsystem viewed from the other end — the level switch itself reporting a failure, rather than the level being wrong. Beko print the same two-word remedy for both. The response is identical: tap off, plug out, book it.
