Abnormal water drainage on the washer-dryer platform. Beko publish a drain hose height range for this one, and getting it wrong is a common cause.

Take care

Some of this is safe to check yourself, but the repair itself is not. If the fault comes back after one reset, stop resetting it and get a qualified appliance engineer to look at the Beko properly.

What E03 means

E03 is the drainage code on Beko’s washer-dryer platform, shown live on the panel with a buzzer, and it is the counterpart to E5 and E27 on the other family. Beko give the fault type as "Abnormal water drainage" and reinforce it in the symptom table of the same manual, where they list "The machine does not drain, drains slowly, or E03 appears in the display" against a set of causes.

Those causes are worth reading because they include a number the code alone would never suggest: the drain hose top being outside the 65 to 100 centimetre range, a blocked pump filter, a hose that is kinked, twisted or bent, and a hose that is blocked or frozen.

The height range is the interesting one. A drain hose whose high point is too low lets the drum siphon itself empty as it fills, so the machine keeps taking water and never reaches level; one whose high point is too high asks the pump to lift water further than it was designed to and it gives up. Both present as a drainage complaint. This is also the code where a frozen hose comes back — a drain hose running through an unheated space freezes just as readily as a fill hose.

What causes it

Causes of the Beko E03 fault code, most common first
CauseWhat is actually happeningHow likely
Pump filter blockedBeko name it first in the symptom table. Coins, hair grips and tissue pulp.Common
Drain hose kinked, twisted or bentBeko use all three words. Almost always behind the machine.Common
Drain hose top outside 65 to 100 centimetresBeko publish the range. Too low and the drum siphons empty; too high and the pump cannot lift the water.Occasional
Drain hose blocked or frozenBeko list both. Freezing is real wherever the hose runs through a garage or outhouse.Occasional

What to try yourself

  1. Follow Beko’s own sequence for this platform. If there is still water in the drum, first try to pump it out: select the Spin programme, press SPEED until every spin-speed light is off, and press Start/Pause. Then shut the tap, switch off and unplug.

  2. Open the drain filter cover at the bottom of the machine. Pull out the small drain hose stored in the pump opening, take its cap off and let it empty into a container — Beko say up to 20 litres may come out. Only then turn the pump cover anticlockwise and remove it; a little more water will follow.

After a hot wash the water in the pump housing can still be hot. Beko’s filter warnings on both platforms say to let it cool before you open it.
  3. Clear the pump housing, check the impeller at the back turns freely, clean the threads, and screw the cover back tightly with its handle vertical. Close the cover and wipe up.

  4. Measure where the top of the drain hose sits above the floor. Beko’s troubleshooting table wants it between 65 and 100 centimetres. Adjust it if it is outside that.

  5. Straighten any kink or twist along the whole run, and check the machine is not standing on the hose.

  6. If the weather is cold and the hose runs anywhere unheated, check for a frozen section before assuming a blockage.

  7. Plug back in and run a spin on its own to test whether it now empties. Beko say to contact service only if the code is still there once the causes above are eliminated.

Get a qualified appliance engineer to look at your Beko E03

We do not pass enquiries to a repair firm, so there is no form here. When you book a qualified appliance engineer, tell them the make, the model and the exact code or message on the display, and ask whether they carry parts for this make — that is what turns one visit into a repair rather than a quote.

What it costs to fix

Nothing for a filter, a kink or a hose at the wrong height. A replacement drain pump fitted is typically £90 to £140.
