What E50 means
E50 means a motor failure has occurred, and it appears as C9 or F9 on some models. What sets this code apart is not the fault itself but the language the manufacturer attaches to it, which is markedly stronger than anything they say about draining or door faults. Their published wording is that they do not recommend using the device until the problem has been completely fixed, that the device should be disconnected from the power supply, and that it should not be reconnected until you are sure that all irregularities have been eliminated. That is a manufacturer telling an owner to unplug an appliance and leave it unplugged, which is not language used lightly in consumer documentation. It is worth taking at face value. A motor fault is an electrical fault, and continuing to power a circuit the machine has already declined to run is how a repairable fault becomes a destroyed control board — or worse, in a cabinet that also contains water. The right move is to unplug it and book somebody, rather than trying it once more to see whether it clears.

Is it worth repairing?
Depends entirely on what has failed. Carbon brushes or a wiring repair is modest and well worth doing. A motor and a control board together on a machine past seven or eight years old often costs more than the machine is worth — get the diagnosis and the figure before you commit to anything.
