Beko E29 fault codewhat it means and how to fix it

The machine has put itself into self protection mode because of a supply problem — Beko name line voltage and water pressure as examples rather than as the whole list.

Take care

Some of this is safe to check yourself, but the repair itself is not. If the fault comes back after one reset, stop resetting it and get a qualified appliance engineer to look at the Beko properly.

What E29 means

Beko print E29 as "The product has switched to self protection mode due to a supply problem (line voltage, water pressure, etc.)". Two things about that wording are worth reading carefully. The first is "self protection mode": the machine has not broken, it has decided that conditions outside it are bad enough that continuing would risk damage, and stopped. The second is "etc.", which is Beko telling you their list is not exhaustive. The two examples they give point in very different directions.

Line voltage means the electricity supply — a brownout, an overloaded circuit, a long extension lead, or a generator or inverter supply on a boat or in a caravan, all of which can drop the voltage below what the motor control needs. Water pressure means the incoming supply is too weak to fill in the time allowed. Their remedy is simply to cancel the programme by turning the selector to another programme, and to call service if it persists.

The practical approach is to work out which supply is the problem before you call anyone, because if it turns out to be voltage the fault is in the house rather than the machine, and an engineer will charge you to tell you that.

What causes it

Causes of the Beko E29 fault code, most common first
CauseWhat is actually happeningHow likely
Mains voltage low or unstableBeko name line voltage first. Extension leads, overloaded circuits and non-mains supplies are all common causes.Common
Water pressure too lowThe second example Beko give. A partly closed tap or a weak mains supply both count.Common
Something else Beko have not listedTheir wording ends with "etc.", so the two examples are illustrative rather than complete.Occasional

What to try yourself

  1. Turn the programme selector to a different programme to cancel. That is Beko’s own remedy and it clears the protection state.

  2. If the machine is on an extension lead, take it off and plug it directly into a wall socket. This is the single most common fixable cause.

Washing machines should not run on extension leads at all. The current draw is high and the voltage drop is exactly what this code is reporting.
  3. Check whether anything else on the same circuit dims or stutters when the machine starts. That points at the supply rather than the appliance.

  4. Run a nearby cold tap and check the pressure looks normal, then check the machine’s own tap is fully open.

  5. If it happens repeatedly on a direct wall socket with good water pressure, book an engineer — and mention the code, because it changes what they check first.

Get a qualified appliance engineer to look at your Beko E29

We do not pass enquiries to a repair firm, so there is no form here. When you book a qualified appliance engineer, tell them the make, the model and the exact code or message on the display, and ask whether they carry parts for this make — that is what turns one visit into a repair rather than a quote.

What it costs to fix

Typical repair cost

£0–£150

20 minutes

Nothing if it is an extension lead or a tap. An electrician to investigate a genuine supply problem is typically £70 to £150 for the visit.

Sources and how we verified this

We establish the facts from the sources below and then write the explanation ourselves. We do not copy manufacturer wording and we do not host their manuals.

  • Manufacturer technical and service documentation

This page has not been reviewed by an engineer, and we would rather tell you that than imply otherwise. The severity rating follows what the manufacturer publishes: where they say isolate the appliance and call someone, so do we.
