Bosch washing machines fault codes

Bosch washing machines show faults as an E or an F followed by two digits — and the prefix does not change the meaning. Bosch state plainly that E18 and F18 are the same fault, and some models show it as d02 instead. Siemens and Neff machines are built on the same platform and use the same codes, so a Bosch answer applies to all three.

Where the code shows on a Bosch

Which form you see depends on the display, not the fault. Three-digit displays show E18 or F18. Five-digit displays on newer Home Connect machines use a two-part code such as E:30/-10, where the first part is the subsystem and the second narrows the cause — E:30/-10 is low water pressure, E:30/-20 is too much detergent or a failed solenoid, E:30/-80 is a drain restriction. If your machine shows a code in that format, do not look up just the first half.

How to reset a Bosch

Turn the programme selector to Off, wait a moment, then select a programme again. For anything that persists, switch off at the socket and pull the plug rather than relying on the front panel. Bosch reserve a full reset for specific codes and tell you plainly when a fault cannot be cleared that way.

Code	What it means	Severity
E18	The machine could not pump out in the time allowed. Bosch point at the filter and the drain hose, and warn that the water you are about to release may be scalding.	Get it checked
E17	Water supply time exceeded. Bosch name the AquaStop hose filter as a cause, which is a Bosch-specific part most owners do not know they have.	Get it checked
E23	Water has been detected in the base of the machine and the AquaStop system has cut in. Bosch say to turn the tap off immediately and stop using it until it is repaired.	Stop — call an engineer
E32	An unbalanced load. Bosch state explicitly that this is not a fault, and it is the code most often mistaken for a broken machine.	Usually simple to fix
E16	The door is not locked properly. Bosch group this with E34, F16 and F34 as one fault, and washing caught in the seal is the usual reason.	Get it checked
E33	Too much foam. Bosch tell you to reduce the detergent, and on a machine with i-DOS automatic dosing that advice needs adapting.	Usually simple to fix
