Miele F62 fault codewhat it means and how to fix it
The programme selector is parked between two settings. Turn it to a defined position and the code goes.
Before you start
What F62 means
F62 is about as benign as a fault code gets. Miele give the cause as the programme selector being set to an undefined position between two settings, and the remedy as turning it to a defined position. The dial on a Miele has detents, and if it is left resting between two of them the machine genuinely cannot tell what you have asked for, so rather than guessing it stops and says so.
Two situations produce it. The first is somebody nudging the dial while loading or wiping the front, which is common on a machine at hip height in a busy kitchen. The second is a dial that has become worn or loose on its shaft, so it no longer settles cleanly into a detent — that one recurs, and it is the version worth noticing, because a selector that will not hold position is a small mechanical fault rather than a user error.
Worth mentioning that this is a different thing from the dash-zero-dash display, which Miele also publish and which means the selector was moved to a different position after the programme had already started. The two are easy to confuse: one is a dial that is nowhere, the other is a dial that moved.
What causes it
| Cause | What is actually happening | How likely |
|---|---|---|
| Dial nudged between detents | Miele’s stated cause. Happens while loading, or wiping the control panel. | Common |
| Selector worn or loose on its shaft | The version that recurs. A dial that will not settle into a detent is a mechanical fault rather than a mistake. | Occasional |
What to try yourself
Turn the programme selector until it clicks firmly into a marked position rather than resting between two.
Select the programme you actually want and start it. The code clears on its own.
If it keeps happening, check whether the dial feels loose or vague compared with how it used to. A selector that no longer holds a detent needs attention.
Get a qualified appliance engineer to look at your Miele F62
We do not pass enquiries to a repair firm, so there is no form here. When you book a qualified appliance engineer, tell them the make, the model and the exact code or message on the display, and ask whether they carry parts for this make — that is what turns one visit into a repair rather than a quote.
