This fault can involve incomplete combustion and carbon monoxide.
If anyone in the property feels sick, dizzy or drowsy, or you can smell gas: open the windows, leave the building, and do not switch anything on or off. Then call the National Gas Emergency Service.

Fault in flue system. The boiler has detected a problem with its flue and locked out. Worcester's checks are obstructions, the flue integrity test and water in the sump. Not a code to reset repeatedly.
Stop — this needs an engineer
Get a Gas Safe registered engineer to look at your Worcester Bosch 2910
We do not pass enquiries to a repair firm, so there is no form here. Find a Gas Safe registered engineer through the Gas Safe Register, and ask to see their registration card when they arrive — it is the register, not the van, that tells you they are qualified.
What is the weather doing?
The right answer depends on what you can see. Pick the one that matches.
Choose the option on the left that matches what your appliance is doing, and the answer for that case appears here.
It is freezing and the boiler was fine yesterday
A frozen condensate pipe stopping the siphon draining is the likely trigger. Worcester's remedy for 2910 includes the siphon for exactly this reason.
Thaw the external condensate pipe with warm — never boiling — water, wait a few minutes, then reset once with the up and down keys. If it returns, call a Gas Safe registered engineer.
Mild weather, and it keeps coming back
The flue itself needs the integrity test. Leave the boiler off.
Book a Gas Safe registered engineer and mention the code. Do not reset again in the meantime.
You can smell fumes or a carbon monoxide alarm has sounded
Treat it as an emergency.
Turn the boiler off, open windows, leave the room and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999. Do not use the boiler until it has been checked.
What 2910 means
2910 is a locking fault on the Greenstar 8000 Life, 8000 Style, 8000+, 4000 and 2000, and the description Worcester print is simply fault in flue system. The remedy list is short and every item is an engineer's: check the flue for obstructions and remove any found, carry out the flue integrity test, and check for water in the sump and the operation of the siphon.
The last is less odd than it sounds — the 8000 generation's condensate siphon sits in the flue gas path, and if it is not draining, water collects where the combustion products should be leaving and the boiler reads it as a flue problem. The Greenstar 2000 adds a related code, 2918, fault in combustion control, whose only remedy is to clean the siphon and drain water out of the appliance on the gas side, which shows what Worcester have in mind.
What the code is not is a nuisance. A boiler that cannot be sure its flue is clear is a boiler that cannot be sure where its combustion products are going, and that is why it locks rather than blocks. Worcester's own remedy makes the flue integrity test part of clearing it. The householder's part is small: look at the flue terminal outside for anything obviously blocking it, check the condensate pipe is not frozen or kinked in cold weather, and do not keep resetting.
What causes it
| Cause | What is actually happening | How likely |
|---|---|---|
| Flue obstructed | Worcester's first check. A terminal guard clogged with debris, a nest, or a flue that has been disturbed or partially disconnected in the loft. | Common |
| Siphon not draining, water in the sump | Worcester's third check. A blocked or frozen condensate route backs water up into the sump beneath the heat exchanger, where the flue sensing sees it as a flue fault. | Common |
| Flue integrity failure | A joint or seal in the flue system that lets combustion products leak. This is what the flue integrity test in Worcester's remedy is for, and it is the reason the code is a lockout. | Occasional |

- EA 227Stop — call an engineerThe boiler tried to light and never detected a flame, so it has shut the gas off and locked out. This is the most common Worcester fault code.Related: same brand

Common questions about Worcester Bosch 2910
Is 2910 dangerous?
It is the boiler refusing to run because it cannot verify its flue, which is the safe behaviour. The danger would be in overriding it. Worcester's clearance includes a flue integrity test, so treat the reset as an engineer's step after that test, not a householder's habit.
Why does a flue fault mention the siphon?
Because on the 8000 generation the condensate siphon sits in the flue gas path. Water that cannot drain collects in the sump and the boiler reads it as a flue problem. The Greenstar 2000's 2918 code has cleaning the siphon as its whole remedy.
Does the Greenstar i have this code?
No. The Greenstar i and Compact tables have no flue-system fault; their flue protection is the flue overheat thermostat under E9 224 and the fan codes C6 and C7.
