Alpha boilers fault codes
Alpha use a plain E-prefix numbering that is easier to read than most: E01 through to E60, with the lower numbers covering combustion and the higher ones covering sensors and the pump. The important caveat is that Alpha have changed the meaning of a handful of codes between ranges, so an E20 on an E-Tec Plus is not the same fault as an E20 on an older CD-series appliance. Check which range you have on the data plate behind the front panel before acting on any code above E16.
Where the code shows on a Alpha
The code appears on the small backlit LCD as E followed by two digits. On E-Tec and Evoke models it alternates with the flow temperature roughly every two seconds, so wait and watch a full cycle rather than reading the first thing you see. A code prefixed with a lower-case e rather than a capital is a warning the appliance is still running with, not a lockout.
How to reset a Alpha
Press and hold the reset button — marked with a flame inside a circle on E-Tec models, or the button below the display on Evoke — for about five seconds until the display blanks and relights. Alpha appliances permit five resets in fifteen minutes and then require the power to be cycled at the fused spur, which is a deliberate limit rather than a fault.

- E01Get it checkedThe appliance tried to light and could not confirm a flame, so it has locked out. In winter a frozen condensate pipe is the most likely reason.
- E10Usually simple to fixSystem water pressure has fallen too low for the appliance to fire. Top the system back up to 1.2 bar and it will restart.
- E02Get it checkedThe overheat thermostat has tripped. Almost always this means water is not moving through the appliance properly rather than that it is running too hot.
- E16Get it checkedThe control board cannot confirm the fan is running at the speed it asked for, so it will not let the burner light. This one needs an engineer.
