Hotpoint DEMO fault codewhat it means and how to fix it
Demo mode is on, so everything works except the heat. Hotpoint give a free diagnostic tell: the word DEMO appears every 60 seconds.
Before you start
What DEMO means
Demo mode lets a showroom run a live oven that lights up, accepts every setting and never gets hot. Hotpoint document it plainly: when DEMO is on, all commands are active and menus available but the oven does not heat up, and DEMO appears on the display every 60 seconds. Access DEMO from settings and select off. That 60-second interval is the useful part and it is unusual for a manufacturer to hand it over — it means you can confirm the diagnosis without touching anything.
Sit and watch the display for a minute or two, and if the word appears on a cycle, you have your answer and there is nothing wrong with the appliance. The situations that produce it are an ex-display oven that arrived with the setting on, or a button combination pressed by accident. Either way it is a setting rather than a fault, and it belongs in the same bracket as an unset clock and an active key lock as the three things worth ruling out before concluding a Hotpoint oven has stopped heating.
What causes it
| Cause | What is actually happening | How likely |
|---|---|---|
| Demo mode has been switched on in settings | Hotpoint place the control in the settings menu, so it is reachable by anyone exploring the menus rather than hidden behind a service sequence. | Common |
| The oven came from a showroom with the setting active | The reason the mode exists. An ex-display appliance can arrive working perfectly in every respect except heating. | Occasional |
What to try yourself
Watch the display for a couple of minutes. Hotpoint say DEMO appears every 60 seconds, so a word cycling on and off confirms it before you change anything.
Go into settings, find DEMO, and select off. That is Hotpoint’s published instruction in full.
Run the oven briefly and check it heats. If it still does not, check the clock is set and the key lock is off before assuming a fault.
Get a qualified appliance engineer to look at your Hotpoint DEMO
We do not pass enquiries to a repair firm, so there is no form here. When you book a qualified appliance engineer, tell them the make, the model and the exact code or message on the display, and ask whether they carry parts for this make — that is what turns one visit into a repair rather than a quote.
