Hotpoint Keylockwhat it means
None of the buttons work. Hold the lock key for at least five seconds to release it — the oven is not broken, the panel is locked.
Before you start
What this means
A dead control panel is one of the most alarming things an oven can do and one of the least serious. Hotpoint document the key lock as a hold rather than a press: to lock the keypad, hold the lock key for at least five seconds, and do the same again to unlock it. They add that the function can also be activated during cooking, and that for safety reasons the oven can be switched off at any time regardless. That last point is worth knowing — a locked panel does not mean you cannot stop the oven.
The Beko-lineage manuals in the range approach it from the symptom instead, listing keys on the control panel not working with the answer that if your product has a key lock, it may be enabled and should be disabled. Between the two, the coverage is good. What makes this worth a page is that none of the buttons work is a very common way to describe an oven problem, and for a large share of the people describing it that way the answer is a five-second hold rather than a repair.
What causes it
| Cause | What is actually happening | How likely |
|---|---|---|
| The key lock has been activated | A deliberate feature rather than a fault, and Hotpoint note it can be switched on during cooking as well as before it. | Common |
| The lock key was held down by accident | Five seconds is easily achieved while wiping the fascia down or leaning something against the panel without noticing. | Common |
What to try yourself
Find the key carrying the lock symbol and hold it for at least five seconds. Hotpoint specify a hold rather than a press, and the same key does both directions.
If nothing changes, check the clock is set. On some models the oven will not respond until the time of day has been confirmed, which also presents as dead controls.
Clean and dry the panel. A touch fascia with moisture or grease across it can behave as though it is not registering presses at all.
Get a qualified appliance engineer to look at your Hotpoint oven
We do not pass enquiries to a repair firm, so there is no form here. When you book a qualified appliance engineer, tell them the make, the model and the exact code or message on the display, and ask whether they carry parts for this make — that is what turns one visit into a repair rather than a quote.
