myenergi zappi EV charger fault codes

The zappi is the only home chargepoint on the UK market with a proper numbered fault code table, published in myenergi’s own manual with a meaning and an action for each code. Ten numbered codes between 23 and 32, plus five named messages that carry no number.

Where the code shows on a myenergi zappi

The zappi shows a written message with an exclamation mark rather than a bare code, so you will see something like PE Fault ! or Contactor Fault ! on the screen. The manual pairs most of those with a number between 23 and 32. Displays without a number — Unknown Cable, Pilot problem, Charge Blocked and the overheating symbol — are no less real, they simply sit outside the numbered set.

How to reset a myenergi zappi

myenergi’s standard action across nearly every fault code is the same two steps: unplug the EV, then press and hold the menu button — the round button with three horizontal lines, the first of the four on the fascia — to reset. The user manual shows the button as an icon and says only press and hold; the installation manual gives the hold as three seconds. On two codes they add a condition that matters more than it looks — for the PEN fault and the voltage range fault they say to make sure the fault has been removed before resetting, which is their way of saying the condition is outside the charger and resetting into it achieves nothing. myenergi are also clear about the limit of owner work: everyone involved in commissioning, maintaining and servicing must be suitably qualified, and the device must always be disconnected from the supply before removing the cover.

CodeWhat it meansSeverity
PEN FaultCode 29. The protection against loss of the supply earth-neutral conductor has operated, and myenergi tell you to remove the fault before resetting.Stop — call an engineer
PE FaultCode 25. myenergi say the earth is either disconnected or its impedance is too high — a problem in the installation rather than in the charger.Stop — call an engineer
SelfTest FailedCode 27, searched as A27. The built-in protection devices could not be tested, or failed the test, before a charge. myenergi’s action is a reset; they do not say it cannot be repaired.Get it checked
Charge BlockedNot a fault. The car keeps asking to charge after it already reported complete, and the zappi has stopped answering.Usually simple to fix
Lock FailureCode 23, and the fix is counter-intuitive: push the plug further in to release it. Untethered zappis only.Get it checked
OverheatingTwo stages, both published: wavy lines over the zappi icon mean thermal limiting with reduced output, and the Overheating! message means the output is off. Ventilation is the remedy and charging resumes on its own.Get it checked
Contactor FaultCode 28. myenergi say a relay inside the unit has welded, and that a second relay is holding the supply to your car isolated. Their action is one reset; if it returns, contact them.Get it checked
Bad Voltage RangeCode 31, shown with Over Voltage or Under Voltage. The mains supply is outside the range the zappi will charge on, so it has disconnected the car. The fault is upstream of the charger.Get it checked
Comms FaultCode 26: the zappi cannot talk to its own built-in protection components. One reset is the published action; a repeat is a hardware fault inside the unit.Get it checked
Pilot problemThe zappi cannot read the control pilot signal on the cable to the car. It retests every five seconds; myenergi’s advice is to unplug, check the plug for dirt and try again.Usually simple to fix
Output FaultCode 24: the zappi has measured voltage on its output when the output should have been off. The unit stays off; reset once, and if it repeats it is a call to myenergi.Get it checked
OverloadCode 30: the car is drawing more current than the zappi offered, so the output has been switched off. Reset, and if it repeats the question is the car, not the charger.Get it checked
Voltage MismatchCode 32: the zappi’s controller and its protection components measured the output voltage differently. A disagreement between two safety measurements, so the unit stops.Get it checked
Unknown CableAn untethered zappi could not identify the rating of the cable plugged into it. Only genuine 13, 20 or 32 amp Type 2 cables are recognised; the unit retests after five seconds.Usually simple to fix
